**Position: Crisis Care / Outreach Worker**
**Accountability: Director, Shelter Services**
**Hours of Work: 30 hours a week - primarily days, some evenings, and weekends**
**Rate of Pay: $23.02 - $23.37 per hour.**
**Location: 1 McGrigor Street**
**Start Date: As soon as possible**
**ABOUT THE ROLE**:Through a feminist and intersection lens, the Crisis Care/ Outreach worker will engage in community development, raise awareness, and create pathways for women. Through mobile engagement, the worker will provide safety planning, education individual & group counseling, assist women with obtaining and maintaining permanent, safe, and affordable housing. In addition to this, the position requires an individual to be able to work independently as well as work as a team member, co-ordinate and liaise with community and its services.
**SUMMARY OF DUTIES**:
1. Provide counselling, referral, advocacy, and support to abused women and their children from a feminist perspective with a focus on providing service within rural areas.
2. Support the development of personal safety plans for women and their children who have experienced abuse in order to confirm their immediate safety and help them avoid further abuse.
3. Conduct assessments and provide crisis intervention as required.
5. Liaise with the community to promote and maintain cross-sectoral relationships.
6. Coordinate workshops, presentations, and information sessions to enhance public awareness and foster understanding of the organization and its purpose and philosophy, as well as issues surrounding abused women and their children.
7. Assist/support co-workers within the YWCA Durham
8. Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as assigned and participate in committees as appropriate/requested.
9. Perform any other duties that may be assigned for the efficient and effective operation of the YWCA Durham
10. Perform all duties in keeping with the philosophical framework set out in the Mission Statement, values, and objectives of the YWCA Durham.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
1. Diploma or Degree in social services, counselling, health services or a related field.
2. 5 years direct experience counselling abused and at-risk women and children in an abused woman’s shelter setting.
3. Previous experience in domestic violence intervention techniques.
5. Knowledge of a range of women’s issues and sensitivity to the diverse needs of women and children exhibited in a supportive and non-judgmental manner.
6. Sound knowledge of community agencies and resources.
7. Ability to write clear and concise reports.
8. Ability to work independently and as part of the team.
9. Understand and respect the confidentiality of the YWCA, partner agencies, and program participants.
10. Excellent organizational, time management, problem-solving and decision-making skills are essential.
11. Demonstrated assertiveness, grace, diplomacy, and resilience in managing intricate and delicate situations.
12. Current C.P.R. and First Aid training is an asset.
13. Valid driver’s license, with proof of adequate level of insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle.
