Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for an Exhibitions and Programs Coordinator to lead the administrative functions of the Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG) at the university.
The Alberta University of the Arts is one of only four major art, craft and design focused Universities in Canada. Our internationally recognized programs and state-of-the-art facilities offer our 1,100 students a hands-on, studio-based education that leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Design, and an MFA in Craft Media. AUArts has deep roots in Calgary’s creative community and our alumni have had an impact on creativity around the world. Alberta University of the Arts will be celebrating its centennial in 2026.
This is a full-time temporary position starting November 2024 until on or before December 2025. Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 7 hours per day.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Academic Resources, the coordinator leads the administrative functions of the Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG), including coordination of public outreach programming, promotion, budget tracking and financial reporting. The incumbent works closely with the Curator and the Educational Art Technician - Exhibitions Preparator and oversees internships, student practicums, gallery attendants associated with the gallery.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Exhibition and Programs Coordination
- Coordinates the exhibition production and programing schedule in collaboration with the Curator and Educational Art Technician including visiting artist relations, contracts and letters of agreement, purchasing, shipping and receiving of artwork, insurance documentation and other special projects.
- Oversees internships, practicum students, and gallery attendants including training, orientation, mentorship, and scheduling.
- Facilitates and promotes public programming and outreach activities, including receptions, community events, partnerships, artist lectures, studio visits, symposia, workshops, and student engagement activities. Gathers performance metrics to report on programming for sponsors and partners.
- Supports the IKG Advisory Council and participates in strategic planning and development projects.
- Maintains the archives and collection, including the inventory database, policies and guidelines, conservation, loans, appraisals and facilitation of public access and inquiries.
- Liaises with external organizations to develop partnerships and generate grant or sponsorship revenue in cooperation with Advancement.
- Creates website and social media content and assists in communication initiatives with Advancement and Communications.
Reporting and Contract Administration
- Stewards visiting artist contracts and coordinates, travel, on-site activities, and hosting.
**Qualifications**:
The following qualifications have been determined to promote likelihood of
success in the role. In alignment with the principles of inclusion, individuals with an alternative equivalent qualification may be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art History or related discipline.
- 3-5 years experience within the arts, culture, gallery or museum sectors in roles demonstrating increasing responsibility.
- Demonstrated organization, time management and planning skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines and commitments.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative and effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders (including curators, artists, faculty, internal departments, and external organizations)
- Demonstrated skill in accuracy and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of post-secondary legislation, policies, and procedures is an asset.
- Experience in contracts and reporting is an asset.
