**POSITION OVERVIEW**
Join us in making a meaningful impact as an Auxiliary Recreation Access Leader with the City of Maple Ridge this summer You'll play a pivotal role in fostering inclusivity within our recreation services in the children’s day camp programs. Your main focus will be on seamlessly integrating children with diverse abilities, ensuring they thrive in recreational activities.

In this dynamic role, you'll provide personalized support and care to each child, tailoring programs as needed to guarantee their participation and enjoyment. Communication will be key as you liaise with caregivers and front-line staff members and supervisors to ensuring every child's success.

Beyond direct support, you will assist with program logistics, staff scheduling, following assigned budgets and support/ participate in staff training as directed by a supervisor. Your leadership will be instrumental in guiding and empowering our support staff team, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where everyone can succeed.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary Education in Therapeutic Recreation or related experience. Ability to supervise staff and coordinate camp schedules, provide staff performance feedback/direction and moderate to complex office tasks.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
Experience in understanding the developmental needs of individuals with varying abilities and the ability to adapt and/or modify program objectives to meet the needs of registered participants, along with experience with training and supervision of a staff team.

In addition, the incumbent will have strong verbal and written communication; experience with scheduling and budgeting; problem solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills, and experience with recreational activity planning.

**LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES**
Standard First Aid, CPR C, AED
Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post-secondary courses in Community and Classroom Support Worker or related fields of study.
- Experience working with persons with diverse abilities
- Experience working in a recreation setting
- Ability to adapt activities to meet the participants’ needs
- Experience in providing personal care
- Sign Language Level 1
- Conflict Resolution Skills

**HOURS OF WORK**
This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours. (_Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement (CUPE 622) alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access_).

**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**
It is expected that the incumbent will be working approximately 10 hours per week at the start of the season, and transition to 30 - 40 hours per week during the months of July and August. The incumbent will be working Monday-Friday and may be required to work evenings and weekends.

All required licenses, certificates and registrations associated with this competition must also be valid and current at the time of hire.
