The Seasonal Airfield Maintenance Specialists report to the Airfield Supervisor, working as part of a dynamic team under the direction of their assigned shift schedule Leadhand. These positions operate a variety of heavy equipment to maintain the airport airside and groundside surfaces; perform general repairs and preventative maintenance work on all airport surfaces and support to other trades in the maintenance of equipment, buildings and facilities. Airfield Maintenance Specialists conduct regular airfield inspections and complete runway/surface condition reports with runway coefficient or friction measurements as required. Perform bird and wildlife control and removal, as well as assist with any emergency occurring airside to ensure that public and employees are safe and secure at all times. Airfield Maintenance Specialists adhere to established safe working procedures.

These positions require the ability to work a rotating shift schedule, overtime and respond to after hour calls to meet airport operational requirements.

**Duties and Essential Job Functions**:
2. Using a variety of heavy equipment perform maintenance duties on airport runways, taxiways, roads, parking lots and general airfield.

3. **Maintains general airfield by**:

- Perform routine airfield inspections of runways, taxiways, aprons, condition of airfield lighting, and signage for vehicle and aircraft navigation
- Grass and brush cutting and tree removal
- Construction of roads and drainage
- FOD and other obstacles removal
- Wildlife control and removal

4. **Maintains Equipment**: Inspects all equipment for mechanical defects and safety on a regular basis, and reports when mechanical attention required

- Performs walk around and safety checks
- Grease all equipment as per manufacturer or Mechanics recommendations
- Replaces cutting edges/sweeper bristles and core as required
- Performs minor maintenance as directed by Mechanic
- Cleans and degrease equipment as required

5. **Building maintenance**:

- Support other trades as required
- Clean shop floors and drains
- Minor repairs such as caulking and paint touch ups
- Emptying garbage and picking up litter in front of the terminal building and ramp

6. **Maintains Property Fences**:

- Fence line inspection
- Retying fence and signs as required
- Brush removal, roadway clearing

7. **Maintains Hard Surfaces**:

- Line painting
- Crack sealing, minor cement work, pavement patching

8. Participate in the Airports Environmental Control, Safety Management System, Security, Wildlife Management and Emergency Response programs.

**QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education and Professional Experience**:

- Grade 12 or equivalent
- 2-3 years of experience in heavy equipment operation
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Security Clearance, an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit, and an Industry Canada Radio licence.

- Proficiency in the English language both spoken and written, with the ability to communicate in French considered an asset.
- Outstanding organizational and problem-solving skills.

- Initiative to complete other parts of the SAA airfield operations training program.
