Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute (“CHEO RI”) is the research arm of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario - Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre (“CHEO”) and an affiliated institute of the University of Ottawa. CHEO RI has an immediate requirement for a Research Laboratory Technician.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of Dr. MacKenzie the Laboratory Technician will be responsible for some or all of the following tasks (listed in descending order of importance); note the list is broad and experience in all areas not mandatory:

- Plan and perform experiments and analysis involving molecular biology, cell biology, cell culture;
- Molecular biology research techniques including DNA and RNA isolations, protein isolation, expression assessment and analysis using western blots, cloning, polymerase chain reaction and gel electrophoresis;
- Cell-related research techniques including, primary human and mouse cell tissue culture, flow cytometry and cell proliferation;
- Perform murine studies including intraperitoneal, intravenous and subcutaneous injections, bleeding, extraction of tissues post-mortem, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence procedures;
- Maintain an electronic record (excel or similar program) of tissue samples under investigation;
- Analyse and interpret generated data;
- Maintain a lab notebook and run literature searches.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILL AND ABILITIES
- College or University undergraduate degree in a health related field (Essential)
- Data management experience (Essential)
- Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office) (Essential)
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills (Essential)
- Demonstrated collegiality, professionalism and team skills (Essential)
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work independently (Essential)
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset (preferred)

- Eligible to work in Canada;

RESPONSABILITÉS

Sous la supervision générale du Dr MacKenzie, le technicien ou la technicienne de laboratoire sera responsable de certaines ou de toutes les tâches suivantes (énumérées dans l’ordre décroissant d’importance). Notez que la liste est vaste et qu’il n’est pas obligatoire d’avoir de l’expérience dans tous les domaines:

- Planifier et effectuer des expériences et des analyses portant sur la biologie moléculaire, la biologie cellulaire et la culture cellulaire.
- Appliquer des techniques de recherche en biologie moléculaire, y compris l’isolement de l’ADN et de l’ARN, l’isolement des protéines, l’évaluation et l’analyse de l’expression à l’aide de la méthode transfert de Western, du clonage, de la réaction en chaîne de la polymérase et de l’électrophorèse sur gel.
- Appliquer des techniques de recherche liées aux cellules, notamment la culture des cellules primaires des tissus humains et de ceux de la souris, la cytométrie de flux et la prolifération des cellules.
- Effectuer des modèles murins de l’étude, y compris des injections intrapéritonéales, intraveineuses et s
