Funds & Grants Development Associate

POSITION STATUS NOTICE Please note that this is a temporary full-time position with a defined end date of June 30, 2027. ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW SUMS Place Society is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, food insecurity, and complex social challenges in Surrey. Through food distribution, housing support, outreach, and community programs, SUMS works to restore hope, dignity, and stability to those in need. OBJECTIVE & JOB SUMMARY: The Funds and Grant Development Associate supports fundraising and grant activities by researching funding opportunities, preparing proposals, maintaining strong relationships with funders and donors, and assisting with reporting and compliance. Working in collaboration with the Director, the role contributes to the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, supports grant writing, and advances initiatives that secure sustainable funding and support the growth of SUMS’ programs and services. REPORTS TO:
- Director or Designate RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works to acquire new donors and manage the donor database; keeps in regular contact with donors during fundraising events.
- Maintains the accuracy of the donor database by ensuring all information is current and up to date.
- Identifies grants, completes grant writing as required.
- Provides support to various committees and volunteers during fundraising campaigns and events.
- Assists the Director with the creation and finalization of guest lists for events.
- Research funding sources as well as writing grant requests and proposals as necessary.
- Performs basic administrative duties such as filing, data entry, maintaining a filing system, maintaining an event calendar.
- Assists in scheduling meetings with prospective funders and donors.
- Follows the donor Matrix in contacting donors and stakeholders.
- Work with the organization's accounting department to keep track of donations.
- Assist with sending acknowledgements of donations to donors and granting agencies.
- Performs other related tasks as needed QUALIFICATIONS
- University graduate in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- A minimum of 1 years combined experience in fundraising and grant management.
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Class 5 (unrestricted) drivers license with an acceptable drivers abstract. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of current social issues facing homelessness populations and the impact on operations for social housing societies, including homelessness, mental illness, substance use, domestic violence, aging and more.
- Ability to analyze challenging and sensitive issues, balance diverse interests and facilitate the implementation of solutions through successful and constructive relationships and partnerships, both internally and externally.
- Strong interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to present data-driven insights effectively in public forums
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders
- Proficiency in CRM systems and advanced competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. WORKING CONDITIONS

- Must be based in the Lower Mainland.

55,000-60,000 per annum

Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements. The top 10% of the pay range is for incumbents who are industry experts in the job with the combination of exceptional experience and competencies needed to perform all duties and responsibilities at a superior capability level.
