5 Ton Company Driver (will be paid as a contractor)

Job Summary:
Chinook Transport Service is a family-owned and operated temperature-controlled cartage company shipping FTL and LTL produce, dairy, meats, seafood, baked goods and beverages throughout Calgary, Edmonton, and surrounding areas.

We are currently seeking a 5-ton company Driver to join our team to assist in managing our amazing growth in the temperature-controlled last-mile trucking industry. This is a very hands-on position requiring the right individual to quickly familiarize themselves with our operations and make an immediate impact.

A 5-ton driver is responsible for transporting goods from one location to another. Job duties include loading vehicles, abiding by traffic laws, and ensuring safe unloading and delivery at the destination of loading.

Skills and Qualifications
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Knowledge of how to handle materials safely, such as frozen or temperature-controlled product.
- Familiar with tracking, routing, and navigation systems.
- Attention to detail to ensure that cargo is properly secured, and all regulations are followed.
- Time management to ensure deliveries are made on schedule.
- Physical ability to load and unload heavy cargo.
- Mechanical aptitude covering a basic understanding of how the vehicle works, ability to identify and fix common mechanical issues that may arise.

**Knowledge on how to operate a power tailgate and power jack**

Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Clean driving record.
- No DUI convictions in the past seven years.

**Some forklift experience is considered a asset**

**Responsibilities**:

- Plan trip logistics and obtain required documentation to transport goods.
- Ensure proper use of all company equipment including vehicle and accompanying Reefers.
- Perform pre-trip, enroute and post-trip inspection of vehicle and systems.
- Ensure cargo is secured properly when loading in accordance with safety requirements.
- Administer bills of lading and maintain logbooks in compliance with federal regulations.
- Communicate with dispatcher, other drivers and customers using communication devices and on-board computers regarding delivery details when required.
- Complete, accurate and legible paperwork related to shipping transactions, obtain customer signatures when needed.
- Monitor the operation of vehicle to ensure safe driving practices following applicable traffic laws.
- Manage time efficiently to plan routes and adhere to deadlines, as well as complete all necessary paperwork and inspections before shift end.

Other related duties as requested.

**Experience**:

- Delivery driver: 3 years
- 5 Ton Delivery: 2 years
- Commercial driving: 3 years
