**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $53,944 - $60,718** starting salary** determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
**Performance range: starting salary to max of $70,797** is available through annual performance increases
- Job Summary
The University of Victoria Island Medical Program is one of the four regional sites of the distributed and expanded UBC MD Undergraduate Program. The objectives of the Patient Programs are to support the learning activities for the undergraduate students in their instructional, practice and/or assessment practices. These learning activities are divided into 3 programming areas; the Volunteer Patients, the Standardization Patients and the Clinical Teaching Associates.
Under the direction of the Patient Programs Coordinator, the Patients Program Trainer is responsible for the recruitment and training of Standardized Patients, Clinical Teaching Associates and Volunteer Patients. This role will provide effective simulated learning experiences in support of teaching and assessing medical undergraduate students at the Island Medical Program and will provide some limited assistance to postgraduate programs.
The Patients Program Trainer liaises with the Island Medical Program's Course Directors, Program Managers, staff and faculty; Post Graduate programs located in Victoria; Island Health staff at the Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals; staff and faculty at the UBC Faculty of Medicine, Vancouver/Fraser Medical Program, Southern Medical Program (Kelowna) and at the Northern Medical Program (Prince George).
This position will be required to work outside of regular business hours.
- Job Requirements
An undergraduate degree in a related field (such as theatre) and 3 years of related professional experience (such as teaching, providing training or mentoring and in presenting workshops) and experience with budgets.
Knowledge of or experience working in a hospital environment, medical terminology and of the community and its available resources.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity, empathy, discretion and good judgment and to relate to and work with people at all levels; to be diplomatic in stressful situations.
Ability to work both independently and with a team environment; solve problems and work in a fast paced, high pressure environment; prioritize work and meet deadlines; and, to maintain accuracy and attention to detail
Demonstrated ability in facilitating and/or leading group processes including the ability to teach others to role play.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication and organization skills.
Preferred
- Health profession graduate.
- Skills in public relations and public speaking.
- Theatre training and knowledge of acting techniques.
