**Position Summary**
The Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion works collaboratively with academic, administrative, and student leaders to develop and implement initiatives aimed at advancing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the learning and working environments across the Faculty of Information. With a comprehensive understanding of a range of diversity issues and resources related to the protected grounds as identified in the Ontario Human Rights Code, the incumbent educates, informs and advances principles and values of equity, diversity, and inclusivity through training, outreach, and the provision of advice and information.
Reporting to the Dean and also (dotted line) to the Executive Director, EDI, the Director acts as a key point of contact and expert resource for staff, faculty and learners across the Faculty of Information and works closely with the Academic Leadership, the Faculty CAO, the Assistant Dean, Students, the Professional Faculties Human Resources Office, the University’s equity representatives, and the University’s Office of Workplace Investigations. The incumbent provides strategic guidance, advice and support to the Dean’s executive team on matters of policy interpretation and practice concerning diversity, accessibility, equity, inclusion, freedom of speech, and freedom of expression for learners, staff, faculty and visitors.
The Director works on related professional development and educational and mentorship initiatives for all levels of the Faculty of Information community, in collaboration with staff and academic administrators in the Faculty. The incumbent represents the Faculty and the Dean’s Office on EDI matters.
The Director is also responsible for identifying gaps, making recommendations, and implementing solutions to develop, advocate and promote a culture of collegiality, respect, diversity, inclusion, equity, fairness, and support that reflects the mission, vision, and strategic objectives of the Faculty and the University.
**Minimum Qualifications**
**Education**:
Graduate degree in a relevant area of study, preferably with a focus on dispute resolution, human rights, diversity, equity and inclusion or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
**Experience**:
Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of professional experience (or several years’ progressive experience) in complex institutional organizations, preferably post-secondary education institutions. Proven experience as an organizational leader. Successful record of advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within a complex organization. Experience with complex report writing at a senior level. Experience leading or facilitating significant organizational change. Proven success in obtaining cooperation and innovative solutions to complex problems. Demonstrated experience and competence in developing targeted training to diverse groups. Experience designing and delivering educational programs is required. Experience developing strategic and operational plans. A thorough understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and relevant legislation/case law. Experience working with diverse student body. Staff supervision/management experience.
**Skills**:
Highly proficient computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Internet research skills.
**Other**:
Excellent command of contemporary diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts, paradigms and issues (e.g., recruitment and retention, access and equity, the educational impact of diversity, policy and legal dynamics of diversity). Ability to critically analyze the range of EDI paradigms, their strengths and limitations, and to articulate these to a diverse audience. Ability to research, identify and implement best practices of equity, diversity and inclusion. Knowledge, skill and experience in mediation, and group facilitation.
