Maintaining a specialized/specific focus on anti-oppressive social work in Northern, rural, remote, Indigenous, and Franco-Ontarian communities, Algoma University’s Honours Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program offers students a unique opportunity to develop generalist social work skills within the context of structural, Indigenous, and feminist analysis and practice. In years three and four, students will engage in a deeper emphasis on critical thinking, reflexive practice and analysis. Complementing this learning, all students must complete an intensive field and intensive field learning component consisting of 700 hours of field placement.
Reporting to the Director of the School of Social Work, the Social Work Field Education, Admissions Coordinator is responsible for supporting the School of Social Work in maintaining accreditation standards related to admissions and field education, by managing student placements, ensuring competency assessment, training field supervisors, evaluating field agencies, documenting processes, collecting feedback, advising on accreditation requirements, staying informed about standards, and collaborating with field and accreditation committees. The role is essential in demonstrating compliance with accreditation standards and enhancing the overall quality of the social work program. The role is also responsible for coordinating program admissions and field challenge processes (prior learning assessment and recognition) and engaging with community stakeholders to promote education and awareness about the School of Social Work ().
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Field Practicum Placement Process Coordination ( 75%)**
- Identify, obtain and maintain relevant and appropriate field education practicum placements.
- Organize and facilitate the Field Orientation sessions for students.
- Manage administration of all aspects of the field education practicum placement process (i.e. agency site selection, administrative duties associated with learning contracts, and practicum site assessment etc.).
- Monitor the field education process.
- Provide ongoing support and resolution to students and field practicum supervisors throughout the placement process, and document and file pertinent information as per the policies of the School of Social Work.
- Identify best practices and policy issues pertaining to field education.
- Work with the Director of Social Work and Social Work Faculty, in the development of policies and procedures associated with social work field education.
- Liaise with the National and professional bodies (i.e. CASWE Annual Field Educators meeting, OCSWSSW, etc.).
- Organize the Annual Field Supervisor Appreciation event.
- Update the Field Education Manual as required, under the direction of the Director of Social Work.
- Coordinate the Field Education Advisory Committee, which consists of students, community agencies, the Director, etc.
- Lead Applied Suicide Intervention Skills 2-day Training Sessions for BSW students in Sault Ste. Marie (mandatory) and Timmins as well as students in other programs, staff, faculty or community partners pending time/resources.
- Participate in the Ontario Association of Social Worker’s Local Network and act as a liaison for the School of Social Work (requires registration with OASW).
- Participate on the Canadian Association of Social Work Education Field Education Committee (requires registration with CASWE).
- Participate as a member of the Ontario Alliance for Field Education Directors/Coordinators (AOSWFED).
