**Nature and Scope**
The Community Safety & Fire Protection Assistant - Summer Student position will report to the Program Coordinator, Community Safety & Fire Protection, and will provide tool, equipment, and maintenance support, as well as perform administrative functions within the department. As an employee of SIIT, this position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission and mandate.
**General Accountability**
The Summer Student will have the opportunity to gain excellent experience while developing the skills necessary to be successful in their future. The summer student will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and communication skills, as well as, their administrative skills and leadership capabilities. This position provides support as required and includes the following broad range of accountabilities:
**Specific Accountabilities**
- Move, deliver, assemble and record inventory records of tools and supplies associated with the T&I programs
- Maintain inventory of tools and supplies
- Receive, unpack, and store incoming tools and equipment
- Inspect and measure tools and equipment for defects and wear and report damage or wear to supervisor
- Perform minor administrative functions as required
- Data entry, enter information from form to an excel sheet
- Print course manuals and bind them into a manual using a binding machine
- Support delivery of the Learn Not to Burn program
- Provide administrative support and back-up coverage in the office during periods of high workload and absences
- Assist in ensuring classroom and program resources are in place, in addition to assisting with the set up and take down of classrooms as required
- Assist with the organization of travel arrangements, course or conference registrations for the department
- Assist in data collection and collating of information or documents
- Assist with special projects and other department initiatives as requested
**There may be some summer student positions that must meet the following criteria**:
- First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive
- Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Registered as students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to studies in the next academic year
**Position Requirements**:Prior experience in a labourer/construction role is an asset. Prior experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs. A valid driver's licence is required as there is potential for travel to other SIIT locations across Saskatchewan. Experience with Microsoft Office programs is required.
