**About the role**
As our next Technical Manager - Open Pit, reporting to the General Manager, based in Vancouver, you will work collaboratively towards delivering high-quality solutions and results.
**Job purpose**
**Core functions**
**Administration**
- Participate in management of AMC as a business.
- Develop new business according to the Business Plan.
**Budgets**
- Provide input to the strategic regional budget and forecasts.
- Manage group performance against budget.
**Consulting**
- Undertake own consulting.
- Act as Project Manager for designated projects.
- Act as Peer Reviewer for designated projects.
- Ensure that all work is peer reviewed before transmittal to client.
**Human Resource**
- Manage own personal and professional development.
- Assist in staff recruitment.
- Coach, mentor and build skills of group members.
- Conduct performance reviews for group members.
- Provide input to salary reviews.
- Address appropriate Occupational Health and Safety issues.
**Management**
- Provide resources as required to other groups.
- Manage workload for the group.
- Ensure there is adequate work for the group.
- Ensure adequate technical and human resources are available to support group activities.
- Monitor all projects being done by group members.
- Report to General Manager on a regular basis regarding project and any significant staffing issues.
- Appoint Project Manager and Peer Reviewer for projects within the group.
**Marketing**
- Maintain good relations with clients to advance the reputation of AMC.
- Pro-actively pursue marketing activities to promote AMC (eg regularly publish technical papers or articles, attend technical conferences).
- Bring in work for other consultants.
- Build relationships with new clients.
- Pro-actively pursue AMC’s business development.
**Risk Management**
- Monitor projects managed within the group for risk exposures.
- Identify and report potential risks.
**General**
- Maintain the standards set out in various AMC manuals.
- Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
- Submit timesheets and expense claims.
**Competencies**

- Good written and spoken English
- Good understanding of the business of consulting in accordance with the Business Plan.
- Good interpersonal skills
**Qualifications and experience**
- A degree in Mining Engineering with more than 15 years experience relevant to the responsibilities listed above
