**Employment Opportunity - Cook and Early Childhood Support Person for Family Place’s Early Years Centre**
**Job Overview**:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cook and **Early Childhood Support Person **to join our team. No experience? We will train you As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes for our Early Years Centre. Your expertise in food handling, preparation, and service will contribute to the overall success of our program. You will be required to ensure the environment meets and exceeds all licensing standards with respect to organization, cleanliness and sanitization.
**Cook Duties**:
- Prepare and cook a wide range of menu items according to recipes and guidelines
- Ensure that all food is prepared and presented in a timely manner
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area
- Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies as needed
- Collaborate with the staff to ensure smooth operations
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations
- Follow proper cooking techniques and procedures
- Monitor food quality and taste for consistency
**Early Childhood Education Support Duties**:
- Support the team by working with a pre-school students during staff's lunches and breaks (if you are not a certified ECE we will provide training).
- Work as a team player
- Supervise child both indoors and outdoors
- Professional, Dependable, Punctual & Reliable
**Skills**:
- Strong knowledge of food handling, preparation, and cooking techniques
- Experience working in childcare center, seniors home or restaurant or food service environment
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
- Early Childhood Certification Level 1, 2 or 3 is preferable (we will train)
- Vulnerable Sectors Criminal records Check
- First Aid & CPR - or willingness to obtain
- Food Safety Course
- or willingness to obtain
- Three references
- You MUST currently live in PEI as we need to fill this position ASAP
Please Note: If this position is shared between two staff (i.e. a cook and an ECE) the hours will be 20-25 hours each. If we find the ideal combination applicant, the hours will be full time - 40 hours per week.

- Terms of Employment: Part -time 20 hours per week to increase to 25 plus hours in September 2024. Daily, mornings and/ or afternoons Monday-Friday.
- Wage Range $18.00 - $25.00 per hour. The ECE component is per the provincial ECE wage grid)

**Cook experience requirements**
You should have three to five years of experience.
**Cook education and training requirements**
Should have a high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent. Culinary arts training as a cook is an asset.
**Certificates**
Must have an approved food handler course and a criminal records check for the vulnerable sector (CRCVS). Employer will furnish you with a letter so that you can obtain this document.

**Cook duties and responsibilities**
Ensure kitchen runs smoothly and effectively. Keep track of kitchen inventory and promote and follow food safety. Maintain cleanliness and order and ensure their workplace is compliant with local safety standards. Other duties and responsibilities:
- Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and order
- Preparation, cooking, and handling of foods
- Monitoring and managing cooking tools and ingredients
- Making adjustments to accommodate specific diet and health concerns
- Setting up the work station
- Cooking recipes on a rotating menu
**Cook skills and qualifications**
You must be detail-oriented, creative, and intelligent. Be a critical thinker and know how to modify recipes to meet children’s needs. Possess strong knowledge of food handling procedures. Other skills and qualifications:
