**Shift: Evening Shift from 2:45 pm to 11:15 pm (Monday to Friday)**
**Shift: Midnight Shift from 10:45 pm to 7:15 am (Sunday to Thursday)**
**General Duties**
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, this position has overall responsibility for all production related tasks within Melet Plastics. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Ensure installation and set-up of injection molds (including insert changes, cleaning nozzle tips), molding machine alarms, related fixtures/jigs and auxiliary equipment (i.e. hot stamper, ultra sonic welder) are done correctly. Ensure robot is set up and functioning correctly.
2. Take corrective action in the event of molding nonconformances. Follow up on corrective actions to ensure effectiveness, as per procedure.
3. Equipment and mold inspection/maintenance as per daily checklist located on each machine. Overhead Crane checklist **must** be completed on a per shift basis with Shift Supervisor signoff.
4. Ensure all production equipment is operating properly and the quality of output meets the established specifications. If equipment is not functioning properly fill out repair form.
5. Maintain open communication channels between peers, subordinates and supervisors.
6. Update set-up sheets (as needed) and sign and justify any changes. Reason for change must also be noted on sheet. Make new set-up sheets as required (new molds or when none exist).
7. Maintain cleanliness at work area(s) and perform required cleanup (5 S system for workplace organization and cleanliness).
8. Update machine disk drives as necessary (changes or new set-ups).
9. Set priorities of mold changes in conjunction with priority list and Shift Supervisor.
10. Maintain close liaison with all production staff and shift supervisors to ensure awareness of any problems and opportunities for Continuous Improvement (Lean Manufacturing).
11. Requisition shop supplies as needed or as quantities become low.
12. Clean injection molding screw and barrel, under the guidance of the senior tech.
13.Performing a test on molds moving to an alternate machine. Verify set up sheet matches the settings.
14. Provide guidance and/or training to other employees as required.
15. Participation on a cross functional Continuous improvement task team or on the Workplace Health and Safety Committee.
16. Ensure cycle times at start up and throughout the shift matches BOM and make necessary corrections as required (optimize cycles when possible). Give sample to QA for approval.
17. View daily production schedule and notify the supervisor of any discrepancies.
18. Ensure all machinery and auxiliary equipment is turned off and all molds are sprayed with rust inhibitor or PVC spray when closing plant down for shutdowns.
19. Sign off on start-up check list at the start of every new production run (located on each machine). Once Process Technician has obtained quality parts they need to page team to the machine, and stay at machine until process has been validated by the team, as per procedure.
20. Participate in educational opportunities, reading professional publications.
21. Be able to work rotating shifts if required.
22. Able to secure a forklift operator’s license and operate a forklift when necessary to perform specific duties related to movement of materials.
23. Help material handlers when needed.
24. Other duties as assigned.
**General Qualifications Required**:
- Good understanding of the injection molding process, molds and materials.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
- Ability to operate an overhead crane and forklift.
- Good understanding of Lean Manufacturing techniques.
- Grade 12 minimum or equivalent education.
- Cannot be color-blind
