The Vancouver office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), a leading, innovative and client-focused law firm in Canada, is seeking a Paralegal, Financial Services to join our team.

Purpose of the Role

You will be a key member of a dynamic and innovative group of lawyers, clerks and legal support staff, providing the highest level of service to our clients, while having the opportunity to cultivate your skills as part of our successful national Financial Services team, within Canada’s premier full-service law firm.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

The key responsibilities of this role are:

- Manage effectively and efficiently medium to complex files and projects under time-sensitive deadlines
- Support the Financial Services lawyers in the preparation of documents related to financing
- Register security in various registers
- Conduct and review due diligence searches, including analyzing search results and drafting search report summaries
- Anticipate potential problem issues and bring to the attention of supervising lawyer
- Support Insolvency team:

- draft pleadings, affidavits and other documents for court
- prepare/serve/ court pleadings and other documents, and file same with court registry
- Contact court scheduling to coordinate hearing dates
- organize/maintain litigation files and electronic evidence
- prepare supporting documentary evidence, and complete research tasks
- Perform ancillary duties and administrative tasks as required
- Other duties as assigned

Key Competencies

What you will bring to this role:

- A graduate of a recognized paralegal certificate or degree program or equivalent
- Have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a Financial Services Paralegal with experience in insolvency
- Knowledge of legal and technical procedures, statutes, regulations, and applicable governmental practices.
- Knowledge of court/litigation processes - in particular, service rules and court filing procedures
- Strong computer skills, particularly with Windows-based computer systems including DocuSign, Closing Folders, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe
- Ability to process documentation with excellent attention to detail
- A team player attitude with excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills
- Available to work extended or additional hours, sometimes on short notice, when necessary
