**Position Summary**

Laundry and housekeeping professional. This is a part-time, on-call position. Many shifts are on weekends. Usual hours of work are 7:00am - 3:00pm or 12:00 - 8:00 pm. The person hired for this job will fill-in for a few different janitorial roles and as such the schedule will vary from week to week.

**Core Functions**:

- Gathers, washes, folds, delivers, and sometimes mends laundry for residents.
- Performs janitorial and housekeeping duties, preventative cleaning tasks, basic maintenance in residential apartments, a long-term care facility, offices, meeting rooms, dining room, staff rooms, windows, hallways, cafe, outdoor grounds, and wherever needed.
- Moves furniture and equipment for Programs department activities.
- Organizes, tidies and cleans work cart, parking, and storage areas.
- Follows daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules, audits sheets, work policies and procedures and cleaning routines.
- Removes snow from walkways in winter and distributes salt to prevent ice.
- Mows grass and assists with landscaping in summer.
- Maintains a neat and clean personal appearance; wears appropriate uniform, name tag and footwear while on the job.
- Reports any abuse/suspected abuse or alleged abuse to the appropriate supervisor.

**Basic Qualifications**
- Knowledge and experience in industrial laundry
- Knowledge and experience in professional housekeeping
- Ability to lift, pull or push weights ranging between 10-30 lbs.
- Ability to complete repetitive tasks including mopping, bending, kneeling, lifting, walking.
- Must be available for weekend, and weekday rotation shifts. Must be able to be on site by 7am on Sunday mornings, (which is before the subway starts running).
- Reliability and proven regular attendance standards are required.
- Moderate English communication skills, ability to follow written cleaning instructions.
- Able to work independently and complete assignments with mínimal supervision.
- Courteous, respectful, patient, dependable, honest, with a cheerful attitude. Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team. - Willingness to learn and understand new work methods. - An observant approach to see what needs to be done and willingness to do it.
- Initiative and a calm, positive, problem-solving approach to encountering unexpected challenges and new situations. Eagerness to help.
- Knowledge of safety practices related to Fire Code, WHMMS, Infection Control, is an asset.
- Experience working in an apartment and/or a long-term care facility is an asset.

**Work Environment**

This is an SEIU unionized position reporting to the Housing & Environmental Services Manager.
