The Human Resources Department supports the University of Winnipeg’s commitment to academic excellence and renewal; student experience and success; Indigenization; research excellence, knowledge mobilization and impact; and financial and institutional resilience. Our core focus is to provide consultation, program development and key services to our faculty, staff and UWCommunity Partners through full-service People Support.
The **Compensation Specialist is a full-time continuing position** responsible for supporting all job evaluation and compensation matters at the University. This position performs job evaluations for unionized and non-unionized positions; conducts market analyses and benchmarking, salary administration; participates in salary surveys; compiles data; prepares costing and analysis, reporting, planning and monitoring and all other related compensation activities.
**Responsibilities**:
- Conducts job evaluation reviews of positions across the University using a formal job evaluation system (i.e. Hay System) ensuring the integrity of the classification system and internal equity.
- Maintains positive working relationships with managers and colleagues to obtain buy in and support of job evaluation activities.
- Works closely with HR Consultants (HRCs) and managers to review job evaluation issues and recommend potential solutions.
- Educates HRCs and managers to understand practices and processes related to job evaluation and salary administration.
- Compiles market benchmarking analysis to ensure the University’s job evaluation outcomes are aligned to labour market data.
- Engages with union representatives as part of the job evaluation process.
- Completes job audits.
- Supports collective bargaining by conducting research and benchmarking, compiling data, and preparing costing and analysis.
- Completes compensation surveys and tracks the University’s labour market position.
- Develops new classification specifications and revises existing classification specifications for unionized positions.
- Supports the HR Operations team with the implementation of regular, University-wide compensation related activities such as general wage increases, performance and merit increases.
- Builds positive working relationships with vendors and compensation professionals outside of the University.
- Stays informed of best practice and industry trends to provide insight and ideas on improvements to remain competitive.
- Participates in strategic and operational planning and implementation as a member of the Human Resources team.
**Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary education with a concentration in Human Resources or related discipline; or a certificate in Human Resource Management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with the Hay Job Evaluation System preferred.
- 3-5 years of directly related compensation and job evaluation experience.
- 3-5 years of experience managing compensation under a collective agreement preferred.
- Knowledge and experience related to job design, analysis, evaluation and compensation.
- Experience performing qualitative and quantitative analysis and research.
- Experience creating salary forecasts based on collective bargaining scenarios preferred.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain trusting working relationships with management, employees, and union representatives.
- Excellent communication skills and including the ability to write clear, concise documentation that accurately conveys decisions and rationale; and experience leading discussions regarding job evaluation and compensation issues.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve.

**Condition(s) of Employment**:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
**The salary range for this position will be from **$76,630 - $97,072 annually**.
