Educational Programs

The Muskoka Lakes Museum regularly runs a number of programs and special events for visitors and members. These programs include: two Open Houses, our Summer Lecture Series, fundraisers, and weekly programs for visitors of all ages. The objective of the Educational Programs & Events Assistant is to conceptualize, plan and execute these programs and events in order to promote heritage and cultural learning. Job Tasks
- Assisting in planning, developing, and executing programs and special events.
- Leading and executing weekday and weekend programming for children of various ages.
- Contacting vendors, speakers, advertisers, and other third parties involved in programs.
- Conducting tours catered to specific ages.
- Developing a social media and website presence for events and programs.
- Visitor desk duties including: admission, membership, donation and gift shop sales; stocking and managing the gift shop; tracking number of visitors; and answering inquiries regarding artifacts and galleries.
- Other relevant tasks as assigned by the Museum Manager. Requirements:
- Asset: Working toward a program in Education, Museum Studies, Event Planning, or a related field.
- Asset: Having worked with children in a day camp and/or museum setting.
- Interest in and/or experience in event planning.
- Interest in and/or experience in public programs
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Suites, Dropbox, social media platforms and Canva.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with various age groups.
- Highly self-motivated and outgoing.
- Organized.
- Standard First Aid (by start of employment). This position is funded by Young Canada Works in Heritage Organization. As such applicants must be:
- Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are noneligible).
- Legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number).
- Between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and are a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.
