iHealthOX is currently looking for a talented individual to join our expanding team as a part-time Respite Worker for one of our clients currently located in Greely, ON.
This client is seeking a staff Monday to Friday after school from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.
Our team is growing and we are looking for highly motivated individuals who are ready to gain hands-on experience working with children on the spectrum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assessing the physical and emotional condition of clients
- Engaging clients in suitable activities such as socializing, playing games, and reading out loud
- Relief and support, emotional regulation
- Learning and maintaining ethical standards of practice
- Opportunity to be involved in any upcoming programs such as: social groups, summer camps, community events, and more
- Opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team alongside speech-language professionals, psychologists, daycare workers, teachers, families, and more
- Flexible schedule with opportunity for more hours as business grows
- Involvement in staff training and professional development opportunities
- Basic hygiene care (changing clothes, diapers, bathroom breaks)
- Recording data daily
- Excellent communications skills to effectively and accurately interact with patients
- Must possess an active-listening skill
- Have and showcase very strong interpersonal skills
- Must have the ability to work independently once assigned a case
- Must have the ability to work with families, healthcare professionals, counselors, and others
- Ability to practice skills; from listening to interpretative skills
- Ensures a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for children and youth providing age appropriate activities with adaptations as needed.
- Promotes behavioural change and personal growth of children and youth who are having difficulties coping as a result of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays.
- Provides life skills training as per goals set out by the youth and other stakeholders.
- Supports youth to achieve their established goals using a strengths-based approach.
- Works within the youth’s community to utilize local resources and programs.
- Initiates activity groups, related to the specific needs and goals of the youth.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Behavioural Science Technology Diploma, Autism Behavioural Science Certificate, Registered Behavioural Technician certificate, or related (preferred)
- Degree/Diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioural Science, Education, Child and Youth Worker, or related field (required)
- Must possess CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Crisis Intervention, or TCI and a degree or diploma relevant to the field (required)
- 6 months - 1 year experience working in a position with exposure to ABA techniques and strategies (preferred)
- Ability to work weekends
- Previous experience with working with children, highly energetic, enthusiastic, positive, creative, and have great play skills
- Good understanding of and experience working with, children and youth with physical or mental developmental disabilities.
- Experience and solid understanding of the harm reduction model.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with youth effectively and adapt to accommodate developmental needs.
- Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families and individuals.
- Successful result of Criminal Record check.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required to attend events and programs
Physical Requirements
- Activities such as, but not limited to, swimming and hiking
- Significant lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
- Must be able to lift at least 30 Lbs, must be able to sit on the floor with children, be engaging, be able to run, walk at a fast pace and be energetic.
- Valid vulnerable sector check and CPR training is a requirement
