Clinical Supervisor

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and clinical oversight to the counselling team at Mamisarvik Healing Centre. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed care and culturally grounded services to individuals, families, and communities impacted by substance use, intergenerational trauma, and mental health challenges. The Clinical Supervisor supports staff in delivering therapeutic interventions that address substance use, problem gambling, mental health concerns, family dynamics, and lifestyle changes.
This is a supervisory position responsible for overseeing the clinical counselling team, providing guidance, support, and performance oversight. The Supervisor may also support the onboarding, supervision, and development of students or volunteers involved in service or training, as required.
**Responsibilities**:
Supervision
- Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to counselling staff, ensuring effective, ethical, and client
- centered service delivery.
- Oversee the implementation and fidelity of trauma-informed, culturally relevant treatment approaches rooted in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) and best practices in addiction and mental health.
- Support case conferencing, clinical documentation reviews, and individualized care planning.
- Facilitate team learning through debriefings, reflective practice, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain a small caseload, as required, to support service continuity and model best practices.
- Collaborate with program leadership to support intake decisions, crisis response, and overall program development
Counselling and Group Facilitation
- Interview clients from diverse backgrounds and determine their suitability for participation in a particular program.
- Conduct bio-psychosocial assessments and collaborate with clients to design client-centred, strength-based change strategies, reflecting evidence-based practices, Inuit traditional healing and clinical experiences.
- Conduct individual, group and family counselling sessions in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to Inuit traditions and clinical practice.
- Counsel family members and significant others to assist them in understanding, dealing with and supporting clients.
- Respond to client requests and crises in a responsible, timely and flexible manner.
- Develop discharge plans in consultation with clients and related professionals and organizations.
- Match treatment services and interventions to clients and their family’s unique circumstances whenever possible
- Work collaboratively and openly with team members to ensure the safest care is provided and seek advice in situations that may be beyond the Counsellor’s scope of practice.
- Utilize Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles and other Inuit traditional teachings for healing and counseling purposes.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate public education, treatment, prevention, and health promotion programs related to substance abuse and trauma based on best practices, traditional healing methods, and in collaboration with related professionals, organizations, and communities.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate substance abuse and trauma treatment programs within the organization that are in keeping with Inuit culture, principles, and values.
- Present self in an approachable and friendly manner as an ethical representative of TI
- Maintain current and accurate confidential records of client files and attend to related requests for documentation in a timely and consistent manner.
- Follow the policy and procedures of TI and consult with supervisor as needed.
- Work collaboratively and actively with administrative staff who will also be working in support of clients in a non
- counseling role i.e., transportation to medical appointments, housing issues, gathering of statistical data.
- May provide on-call services during treatment cycle.
- Occasional provision of short trips with clients and support during other activities may be required on occasion i.e., supportive of CAS cases and access issues
