**Position Purpose**

The purpose of this position is to design and deliver inclusive and specialized, high-quality physical fitness programming and classes to members of York Regional Police. This position will conduct physical fitness evaluations, exercise prescriptions and disseminate training resources in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Biological Health Unit. The Physical Exercise Specialist will work within a community of wellness professionals to assist in the development and implementation of unique training programs for high-performance physical training, reconditioning and clinical rehabilitation.

**Major Duties & Responsibilities**

Supervise and administer physical fitness tests for applicants, cadets, and members, including PREP testing, PIN testing, musculoskeletal testing and energy system testing.
Analyze and interpret testing data to guide future programming and communicate members' training results.
Assist in the evaluation, development and instruction of the cadet-in-training physical training curriculum.
Perform individual and on-going clinical exercise physiologist and strength and conditioning coach services for rehabilitation, health and high-performance training. Services include: motivational interviewing, nutrition and physical activity consultation, technical exercise demonstration, musculoskeletal testing, tailored supervised exercise prescription and periodized strength and conditioning programming.
Create, distribute and present educational resources on physical fitness, nutrition, and sleep.
Assist in the planning and coordinating of programs and services offered by the Biological Health Unit. Completes daily tracking of data for annual reporting.
Lead and supervise strength and conditioning sessions to a diverse population with varying skill and ability for the purposes of member training, recruiting efforts and community engagement.
Monitor all fitness areas to ensure equipment is well-maintained, safe, clean, and functioning appropriately. Maintain records of inventory lifespan and repair history.
Assist in the development of equipment procurement plans and requests.
Contribute to ongoing research and development efforts in the Biological Health Unit.
Report on program and member progress to the Biological Health Coordinator using key performance indicators of health and fitness.
Remain up-to-date on the latest research and trends in strength and conditioning.
Oversee Fitness PIN Database.
Assist in organizing Biological Health Unit special events and training courses.
Completes and maintains accurate clinical records including consent forms, SOAP notes, intake forms and discharge documentation.

**Education, Licensing & Certifications**

Successful completion of a four (4) university degree in Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science or in a related field.
Current Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CEP) or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM-CEP).
First Aid/CPR Certification required.
Valid Class G Driver’s License is required.

**Experience**

Minimum of two (2) years of previous experience working as a Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) or in a related role within the qualified exercise professional industry.

**Skills**

Successful completion of Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT) with High-Performance Specialization, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS-NSCA), Registered Kinesiologist (COKO-RKin), or Master of Science in Physiotherapy (MSc PT).
Exercise with Prescription & Programming Skills.
Ontario Police Fitness Award Appraiser Certification.
Experience utilizing Microsoft Applications for Data Management and Record Keeping.
Oral and Written Communication Skills.
Effective training and presentation skills.

**Additional Notes**:
Must be able to pass and obtain the Ontario Police Fitness Award (PIN) test for police.
