**Mental Health Counsellor (Fixed Term 18- Month Maternity Leave Contract)**

**Job Summary**
The primary focus for the Mental Health Counsellor will be the provision of counselling, advocacy and support services for patients and their families.
**Essential Responsibilities**
As a team member of the ByWard Family Health Team, you will:
- Use best practices and innovative approaches to provide client-centered services including assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services maintaining an average workload of 5-6 patients/day;
- Provide crisis intervention and liaison with other service providers to support patient stability and recovery;
- Provide ongoing evaluation and revision of patient’s progress/goals;
- Provide direct assistance with symptom management, employment, social relations and/or activities of daily living;
- Areas of competency in this role include depression, trauma, anxiety disorders, and cognitive behaviour techniques, parenting problems, substance abuse and other social problems.
- Works collaboratively with the patients’ primary care provider and other members of the health care team to address the patients’ mental health and overall health care needs.
**Essential Qualifications**
- Master’s degree in counselling or relevant post graduate studies in counselling
- Bilingual preferred (French and English)
- Registered member in good standing with the professional association
- Demonstrated in depth knowledge of mental health symptoms, issues, psychotropic medications, and associated side effects
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively engage community services and individuals, increasing awareness of services and establishes rapport with persons living with serious mental illness
- Ability to work in a computerized environment
- Ability to work effectively either in person or remotely
- A minimum of 2-years experience providing mental health services in a community or primary health care setting preferably as a mental health case manager
**Salary Range**:32.17 To 39.17 (CAD) Hourly
