**Worksite**: Central Branch, Various Branches
**Job Summary**: Reporting to Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for cleaning as well as performing minor maintenance and repair duties at our branch facilities including: washing toilets and hand basins; dusting; sweeping, mopping, waxing and polishing floors; vacuuming; basic plumbing; minor carpentry and repair work; painting and touch-up work; and maintaining outside grounds. The incumbent also assists the Trades Maintenance workers with minor jobs and furniture moves as required.
**Job Requirements**:
**Education/Qualifications/Experience**:
- Completion of the tenth school grade and completion of a training course as a Building Service Worker plus considerable related experience in building trades and maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:
- Working knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in the painting, plumbing and carpentry trades and general building maintenance, janitorial and gardening work.
- Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and precautionary measures as related to the building trades and general maintenance.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions and effectively carry them out.
- Ability to maintain satisfactory relationships with the other library employees.
- Ability to carry out any carpentry, plumbing or painting repairs or maintenance to gardens, fixtures and equipment not requiring the services of a fully qualified tradesman.
- Ability to work with a minimum of direct supervision.
- Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power operated tools.
- Ability to climb ladders and work on scaffolding or in cramped and awkward positions.
**Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations**:
- Driver's license for the Province of British Columbia where applicable.
