Job Summary
The School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is a partnership between the Faculties of Applied Science and Medicine, established in 2017. Currently the School has 36 core and joint faculty located on campus and at healthcare research institutes, 400+ undergraduate and 200+ graduate students, 20+ administrative staff and several research core service facilities. The School is a nucleus for education and training, research, and innovation in biomedical engineering, creating new knowledge, new academic and training programs, and fostering translation and innovation, aspiring to be a global leader in the field. Its vision is to transform health care outcomes through unconstrained exploration of the best possible integrative solutions across engineering, medicine, and biology.
The Graduate Programs Strategist is situated in the Student Services office and will support the School of Biomedical Engineering's graduate professional programs by leading the strategic recruitment of potential graduate students, supporting the student experience for current students in the professional programs, and understanding the career related outcomes for SBME alumni. A key focus for the position is on the growth and delivery of the Master of Engineering (MEng) program, and the PhD Rotation program. This position will also assist in the strategy, development, and implementation of new professional graduate programs, micro-credential or certificate programs, and special projects for the MASc and PhD programs. The Strategist will utilize multiple strategies and rely on collaborative efforts to meet specific recruitment targets, and to enhance the student experience and learning and career outcomes for SBME students. The Strategist will also support new strategic priorities and directions, as identified by the SBME Strategic Plan, and SBME Leadership.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Senior Manager of Academic and Special Programs and works closely with other members of the Student Services team. For special projects, may report and receive direction from Director, Graduate Biomedical Engineering Program.
Work Performed
**The main areas of responsibility are as follows**:
**(1) Program Recruitment & Admissions Processes**: Leads and is responsible for strategic enrolment management, ensuring that the School of Biomedical Engineering meets its targets with respect to international and domestic enrolment. Advises and participates in the development, implementation, and assessment of an effective marketing and recruitment plan for the School of Biomedical Engineering that will result in the recruitment and retention of high caliber students. Provides direction the admission processes for PhD Rotation, MEng, and Engineers in Scrubs. Duties include:
Researches markets and the applicant pool to identify, develop, and implement appropriate recruitment policies, tactics and activities to achieve enrolment goals for the the professional and research-based graduate programs.
Develops, plans, and executes special events; organizes and executes activities related to the success of recruitment fairs and events domestically and overseas.
Conducts one-on-one advising sessions and group information sessions on the features and benefits of the programs to attract high-calibre applicants and students.
Prepares and delivers presentations to audiences of prospective students to support recruitment events and fairs.
In consultation with the Senior Manager of Academic and Special Programs evaluates the outcomes of various recruiting activities, collaborates with the Manager to prepare post-trip reports in a timely manner and makes recommendations for changes and improvements.
