ACT Learning Centre is a leading edge, dynamic, multidisciplinary practice in Ottawa. We are a team of Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Board Certified Behaviour Analysts, Communicative Disorders Assistants, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Early Childhood Educators and Registered Behaviour Therapists providing exceptional services to children and youth with autism, developmental disorders and delays and their families. We have a busy multidisciplinary practice with multiple locations throughout Ottawa.

ACT is one of three local providers of the Caregiver Mediated Program under the Ontario Autism Program (the PLAY Project) and the only local provider of the Entry to School Program (a school readiness program funded under the Early Years Pillar of the Ontario Autism Program).

We have a position open for a Communicative Disorders Assistant working in both our private practice and our cutting edge, evidence-based PLAY Project program. The PLAY Project is a play-based parent coaching model that takes place in the family’s home, and helps parents use individualized strategies during play and everyday activities that help their child develop interaction, communication, and play skills.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide individualized service to pediatric clients with autism spectrum disorders (and a variety of other developmental delays or disorders) as part of the PLAY Project team
- Travel to client homes to provide biweekly PLAY sessions to families using a parent coaching model to help families develop skills needed to support their child
- Creatively problem-solve and adjust treatment strategies to provide individualized treatment programs
- Write individualized reports that include video footage monthly for each client
- Work under the supervision of a regulated healthcare professional (SLP, OT, etc.)
- Implement speech and language therapy plans in clinic, home, and/or community settings under the supervision of a registered Speech-Language Pathologist as part of the private practice team
- Create motivating and engaging therapy activities to target goals, based on each clients needs and interests
- Collaborate with the supervising SLP to adapt therapy plans to each client’s needs
- Support pediatric clients with challenges in all areas of communication, including joint attention and engagement, early language skills, speech sound disorders, AAC, and literacy needs.
- Follow all procedures related to intake, documentation, and discharge or clients
- Maintain strict client confidentiality, including safely maintaining client files

**Qualifications**
- Diploma in Communicative Disorder Assistant program
- Minimum 1 year experience working with children
- Knowledge of typical and atypical child development
- Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule
- Strong time management skills
- Excellent documentation and report writing skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Ability to use various forms of video conferencing technology (training would be provided)
- Must have daily access to reliable internet
- Flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the clients
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset
- Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and the ability to travel to client homes in the Ottawa and surrounding area
- Valid vulnerable sector check
- Current first AID/CPR-C certification
