**Exciting Career Opportunity: Director of Public Works**
**About the Role**
K’ómoks First Nation is seeking a forward-thinking and experienced Director of Public Works to lead critical infrastructure and community services across our Nation. This senior role oversees a broad portfolio including water and wastewater systems, capital projects, street maintenance, stormwater management, and housing infrastructure.
Working closely with the CAO, Council and external partners, the Director plays a strategic leadership role in planning, delivering, and continuously improving public works programs to meet community needs and uphold environmental, safety, and cultural standards
**What You’ll Do**:
- Lead planning, delivery, and improvement of public works, housing, facilities, and asset management programs
- Develop and implement departmental strategies, budgets, policies, and procedures
- Oversee capital projects including design, construction, renovation, and maintenance
- Ensure compliance with federal/provincial laws, safety codes, and environmental regulations
- Engage community members and stakeholders in planning and service delivery
- Supervise consultants, contractors, and internal teams; approve plans and specifications
- Track project timelines, budgets, risks, and outcomes
- Identify and secure funding; meet reporting and accountability requirements
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to departmental staff
- Liaise with Council, other governments, agencies, and partners
- Perform other related duties as required
**What You Bring**
- 5+ years of progressive leadership in public works, infrastructure, or asset management
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, engineering, business, or equivalent experience
- Proven skills in budgeting, capital planning, and project management
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and working with contractors and engineers
- Knowledge of public works regulations and environmental safety standards
- Cultural awareness and experience working with Indigenous communities
- Familiarity with government funding, reporting, and intergovernmental relations
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management tools
