Valbruna ASW Inc., the premier specialty steel-making facility located in Welland, ON, has a requirement for the following position:
**PURCHASING MANAGER.**

Valbruna ASW Inc. operates a dynamic and versatile facility and has a long and storied history in the steel-making business, with roots in Welland dating back to 1918. Our acquisition by Valbruna Italy combined with improvements in efficiency and production flexibility have placed us among the premier specialty steel producers in North America. The Purchasing Manager is specifically **responsible** for the following:

- Overall responsibility for Commodity Purchasing, Raw Materials and Scrap Supply and Stores management, including supervision of personnel associated with these functions
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for scrap and alloy sourcing and supplier development
- Ensure the availability and timely supply of raw materials and spare parts
- Coordinate and oversee the supply of contracted services to the operation
- Maintains awareness and manages risk associated with key market trends and prices so as to optimize total cost to the company
- Provide guidance, coaching and support to internal clients with regards to purchasing and support services activities
- Manage overall purchasing activities and ensure business stakeholder compliance to purchasing channels
- Negotiate and implement commercial agreements with suppliers and maintain supplier database
- Assessment of total cost of dealing with various suppliers, including yield rates, costs of delivery and administration, quality control and inventory maintenance costs
- Evaluation of existing guidelines, procedures and processes and identification and development of improvements as necessary
- Lead the resolution with suppliers regarding rejections, dispositions and adjustments of purchased materials which fail to meet specifications
- University or college graduate, professional certification or training through an accredited procurement society such as the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) or the Association for Operations Management (APICS) CPIM program is desirable
- 10+ years of progressive purchasing experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably within the steel industry
- 5+ years of experience leading people
- Excellent negotiation skills and ability to analyze complex information
- Proven experience in contract drafting and interpretation in a raw materials purchasing environment
- Superior communication and organizational and problem-solving skills and the proven ability to develop and implement plans, procedures and processes
- Ability to work independently in an unstructured environment with little supervision and an exceptional initiative and ability to take ownership of projects
- A strong willingness to work in a fast-paced, lean environment where adaptability, innovation and hard work are valued above all else
