Health and Safety Specialist

As a Health and Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for developing, administering, and implementing companywide occupational safety programs. You will serve as the coordinator for the occupational safety programs within our Canadian and International offices (North and South America). Your role will involve planning, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating departmental occupational safety programs.
**Job Duties & Accountabilities**
1. Responsible for safety orientation, safety training, job site inspections, and reporting.
2. Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations and make recommendations for their implementation.
3. Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports, and recommendations.
4. Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all employees and subcontractors, including managing client safety portals (i.e., ISNetworld, Cognibox, Avetta, etc.)
5. Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for supervisors and field employees, with regard to OHS requirements, and both general industry and job specific safety topics.
6. Ensure the timely completion of accident/injury reporting.
7. Manage Workers Compensation claims for Canadian and US offices.
8. Work with and provide support to the international offices to ensure local Health & Safety standards are being met, while at the same time implementing standard Health & Safety best practices across Quantec where possible.
9. Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate company’s occupational health & safety programs. Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.
10. Responsible for complete Risk Assessments prior to the start of projects to recognize, assess, and control hazards.
11. Provide guidance to field personnel via safety briefings to ensure safety of personnel, property, and equipment.
12. Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
13. Design & write safety standards to conform to industry standards, and federal, provincial, and local regulations.
14. Develop and implement safety programs by inspecting or reviewing areas, equipment, processes, and work activities for hazardous conditions.
15. Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet local, provincial, and federal OHSA requirements.
16. Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments.
17. Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs.
18. Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the workplace and international site-specific safety security and health reports.
17. The H&S specialist will play a crucial role in collaborating with H&S representatives across South America. We aim to establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and cultivate best practices that can drive continuous improvement in our health and safety initiatives internationally.
19. Participate on the Joint Health & Safety committee.
20. Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**
This position requires an individual with:
- **College or University Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or related fields.5 years **of professional experience in related fields
- **Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations**:A comprehensive understanding of local, regional, and national health and safety regulations is crucial, some international knowledge would be an asset. This includes knowledge of occupational safety standards, emergency response protocols, and risk assessment methodologies.
- **Field-Specific Knowledge**: Familiarity with geophysical industry and potential hazards associated with field surveys is an asset. This includes knowledge of potential risks related to working in remote locations, extreme weather conditions, wildlife encounters, and natural disasters.
- **Risk Assessment and Management**: The ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and develop effective risk management strategies is vital. This involves conducting thorough site inspections, evaluating procedures, and implementing safety protocols to mitigate risks.
