With over 130,000 residents, Ajax's rich heritage and culturally diverse community make it a great place to work and live. **Summer Students - Environmental Services**: The Town is currently looking for Summer Students to work in the Operations & Environmental Services Department. Summer Students are responsible for performing grounds maintenance tasks including litter pick up, mowing grass, trimming, annual planting of flowers, trees and shrubs and/or assist in general roads maintenance, construction activities and special event set-ups. Subject to work group assignments, these positions may be required to operate a range of vehicles and maintenance equipment such as tractors, riding mowers, pickup trucks, string trimmers, roto tillers, blowers, and a variety of hand tools. **Eligibility**: To be eligible for a summer student position with the Town of Ajax you must be currently enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies and be returning to full-time studies in the fall 2025. Documentation from the school must be provided indicating that you are currently enrolled in full-time studies (January -April 2025) and confirming your enrollment in September 2025. The Town will accept any of the following to verify enrollment in college or university studies: - Registrar’s letter confirming enrollment and academic eligibility for the next semester; - Letter confirming your anticipated graduation date; - Letter indicating that you have more credits left to complete in your current degree; **Term of Employment**: - Be available to work 40 hours per week over a seven-day period (including shifts, early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays) **Qualifications/Skills**: - Previous work experience performing grounds maintenance tasks including operating equipment, litter pick up, mowing grass, trimming, planting of flowers, trees and shrubs, construction activities and special event set-ups is considered an asset; - Excellent customer service and good interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to deal with the public courteously and efficiently; - Strong communication skills, able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; - Students hired to drive Town vehicles will be required to hold a valid "G" drivers license and have a clear driver's abstract; **Driver's License Requirement**: Preference will be given to those students who have or will have a valid Class “G” license with no demerit points as of April 1, 2025. Once the Town has hired the required number of students with a valid driver’s license, consideration will be given to other applicants regardless of whether they hold a valid license or not. **Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check**: - Applicants are advised that a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check will be required prior to being hired into the summer student position. - **_Please note that police record checks completed by a third-party company (i.e. Certn Canada) will not be accepted._** **Documents required upon accepting the position**: - Proof of student status (see requirement above); - SIN card or official documentation from the CRA; - Void cheque or direct deposit information; - Copy of your driver's license; - Successfully completed Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (dated on or after January 1, 2025). **Rate of Pay**: - $17.99 - $19.56 per hour - 40 hours per week **How to Apply**: **References** - If you are selected to move forward in the process you will be required to submit employment references (current and former supervisor). If you are a student and have no work experience, you may provide a teacher, coach, co-op/volunteer placement supervisor.
