Your Toronto Zoo makes animal well-being a priority in all operations and shows respect for all wildlife.

**Basic Function**: The Plumbing Assistant-Seasonal is responsible for assist with monitoring and maintenance of the Splash Island filtration and plumbing systems, as well assist with the installation of new filtration components and upgrades around the Toronto Zoo site. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.

**Responsibilities**:

- Operate pool main, fill and drain valves.
- Operate the system main, booster, filter and chlorine circulating pumps.
- Hose and clean pool holding tanks, stainer, and pump baskets.
- Complete filter backwashes on a routine schedule.
- Take and record PH, UV, PSI, level, and water meter values.
- Fill in daily log/check sheets.
- Assist with splash pad related maintenance.
- Assist Plumbers and life support system team with other related work as required.
- Follows all policies and branch instructions.
- Attends appropriate training as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Filtration/pool technician/plumbing experience is an asset.
- CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certificate is an asset.
- First Aid/CPR C certification is an asset.
- Water Quality or Water Treatment Certificate is an asset.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Self-starter, able to work with mínimal direct supervision.
- Desire to set and maintain high standards.
- Must ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good standing. Copies of licenses and certificates to be provided at time of hire and upon renewal.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation an asset.
- An asset to possess an unrestricted Class G driver’s license valid in the Province of Ontario, along with a good driving record.
- Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
- Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry 50lbs.
