The Recreation Facilitator promotes the overall quality of life for the residents at Golden West Centennial Lodge. The incumbent exercises a high level of initiative and independent judgement in determining work priorities and methods. The position functions in a manner that’s consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Golden West Centennial Lodge. The Recreation Facilitator develops and implements a variety of therapeutic, leisure and recreational programs for individual residents, in small and large group settings.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults Certificate or Recreation Studies degree from a recognized university is required.

Certificate in Gerontology is an asset.

Valid CPR & Basic First Aid, Safe Food Handling an asset.

A minimum of two years related experience working with the elderly in the health care field is an asset.

Good physical & emotional health to carry out the physical requirements of the position.

Good work and attendance record.

Ability to express ideas & thoughts in English (both verbally and in written format)

**TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, and the ability to assess residents’ capabilities, limitations, and special needs, with the implementation of programs for individuals with dementia.

Knowledge of relevant Workplace Safety and Health responsibilities.

Ability to organize workload and set priorities.

Ability to plan and organize for individual, small and large group programs.

Familiar with MDS.

Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with residents, family members and coworkers.

Must demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, creativity, sound judgement and problem-solving skills in all areas of practice. An ability to self-direct, with mínimal supervision.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.

**SALARY/GRADE**: As per CUPE contract. EFT: 7.75 hours. Shift includes days, evenings, and weekends.

Part-time hours: 30 per week

**Salary**: $20.09-$23.75 per hour
