**IT Support Specialist - Contract**

Virtek is a high technology company based in Waterloo, Ontario. We are the world’s leader in providing laser and vision-based projection and inspection solutions. Virtek has a dominant product position in the aerospace, prefabricated construction and industrial fabrication markets.

**Role**

Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Support Specialist is responsible for setting up and maintaining the Virtek computers, loading software, monitoring the backup systems and performing helpdesk responsibilities. This is a 9-month Contract position, working in the Virtek Waterloo office.

There are no direct reports with this role.

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Load software onto client computers
- Troubleshoot network, computer hardware and software problems
- Setup of new users and decommissioning of users
- Provide helpdesk support
- Execute backup procedures
- Execute routine processing procedures
- Administrate backup procedures
- Repair computers
- Provide on-the-job training to new staff members
- Pass a comprehensive background check
- Assist in LAN design
- Flexible working hours

**Knowledge and Skills**
- Community college 3-year program, Microsoft A+ certification, MCSE designation, or equivalent experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with users and suppliers
- Work as part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required
- Knowledge of computing and network hardware and peripheral equipment
- Knowledge of computer network protocols
- Knowledge of WAN’s
- Experience with multiple operating systems
- Windows 10
- Windows Server 2012, 2016 2019
- Active Directory
- Experience with server-based software
- BackupExec
- Jira / Confluence
- MS SQL server
- ERP and/or CRM software

**Working conditions & Physical Requirements**
- Standard business hours with some overtime required
- Must be able to lift weight up to 20 kgs
