Under the supervision of and strategic directives from Director of Engineering and Maintenance, the Assistant Parks Maintenance Manager, Water & Attractions plays a pivotal role in bolstering the operational efficiency and leadership within the World Waterpark, Marine Life, Deep Sea Adventure Lake and other Parks and Attractions at West Edmonton Mall. This position is crucial for enhancing staff accountability, streamlining operations across all departments, and ensuring the department is well-prepared for succession planning and the execution of major projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Assisting in overseeing the daily maintenance operations across Parks and Attractions environments at West Edmonton Mall, including but not limited to World Waterpark, Marine Life and other future attractions, to ensure all mechanical systems are operating efficiently.
- Providing operational management to the maintenance team of World Waterpark, Marine Life and other attractions trades including ironworkers, welders, structural inspectors, painters and various other trades and contractors that perform maintenance work within the related attractions.
- Monitoring and ensuring a maintenance-based workplace culture where both the efficient and safe operation of our slides, wave pool and other attractions are paramount, and all attractions and the visual presentation of a high-quality theme park experience is prioritized for our guests.
- Maintaining a management presence in the parks to oversee proper inspections, repairs, and safe work practices, ensuring project timelines and requirements are met.
- Creating and implementing structured department specific training programs to promote technical expertise and ensure proper onboarding for all related parks maintenance staff.
- Providing leadership and managerial support to the skilled trades team members within WEM’s Parks and Attractions, including mentorship, performance feedback, and growth opportunities to foster professional development.
- Aid in coordinating maintenance projects with internal and external stakeholders to guarantee completion within the agreed contractual terms, safety standards, timelines, and budgets.
- Collaborating closely with the Director of Engineering and Maintenance and Parks and Attractions Management in interacting with external stakeholders (industry professionals, regulatory inspectors, and other relevant parties) to coordinate upgrades, renovations, and new installations, ensuring projects meet safety standards, timelines, and budgets, while upholding the highest standards of park maintenance and safety.
- Ensuring that purchase orders, invoices, and administrative tasks are completed accurately, on time, and in an organized manner.
- Promoting and maintaining strong professional communication between departments to ensure smooth operations and collaboration.
- Assisting in the research, planning, and coordination of major mechanical renovations, upgrades, and new attractions within the parks, ensuring the department remains at the forefront of industry developments.
- Contributing to the organization and execution of regular departmental meetings, promoting effective communication and adherence to the Parks Maintenance budget.
- Other duties as required.

Desired Qualifications:

- Must have several years of Management/Supervisory level experience within a related working environment that includes an understanding of various mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatic systems, control systems, etc. and working knowledge of pumps, plumbing or structural systems.
- A strong dedication to project management, staff mentorship and leadership, timeline adherence, delegation and associated follow-up is required.
- Applicants must have a strong working background in a related trade to the position with preference being given to journeyman ironworkers, plumbers, related amusement park maintenance professionals, or maintenance project managers.
- Related experience in an amusement park, recreation facility, water systems, or a related work environment is a definite asset, as is formalized supervisory or management training.
- Experience overseeing a large number of staff, multi-tasking managing multiple projects at once, experience with dealing external vendors and representatives, and comfortable interacting with various levels of management up-to and including external management representatives and internal executives.
- Proven experience interpreting mechanical plans, schematics, blueprints and technical drawings.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal English communication skills complemented by professional computer skills and abilities including Microsoft Office programs.
- A strong dedication to adhering to proper safe work practices, regulated safety and building codes, OH&S requirements and training protocols.
