**Role and Facility Information**:
The position includes access to OR time at Richmond as well as minor surgery time and involvement in a multidisciplinary on site hand clinic. The successful applicant will need to provide access to the full complement of plastic surgery practice for both elective and emergency care. They will join five other surgeons to care for a growing number of patients in the Richmond community. Completion of a fellowship is therefore a prerequisite for applicants.
Richmond hospital is a community academic teaching hospital. Applicants must have an interest or additional training in research and/or medical education. The hospital is over 225 beds, sees over 50,000 emergency room patients per year and runs seven acute operating rooms daily as well as a minor procedure room, a busy rehab clinic and an ambulatory procedure centre. The medical community is collegial and supportive with excellent relationships between departments as well as between community family physicians and specialists. Due to its proximity to the Vancouver airport, the hospital also provides services to visitors traveling to and from YVR.
Richmond is located on Lulu Island at the mouth of the Fraser River, and also encompasses adjacent Sea Island and some smaller uninhabited islets to the north and south. Neighbouring communities are Vancouver and Burnaby to the north, New Westminster to the east, and Delta to the south. The Strait of Georgia forms its western border. It is the fourth largest city in BC and encompasses diverse neighbourhoods from historic Steveston to the agricultural land reserves. The population of 218,000 is one of the most ethnically diverse in Canada
