Indigenous Career Consultant

Applications are invited for the position of Indigenous Career Consultant in the Indigenous Education Division, located at the Welland Campus. The starting hourly rate is $39.34/hr (Pay Band I - $39.34/ hr
- 45.59/hr) for a 35-hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary. This is a temporary Initiatives/Opportunities position as per Article 17.3.1 of the Support Staff Collective Agreement and is set to conclude in 18 months.
**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Provide career information and job search techniques through information sessions, workshops, classroom presentations, and individual appointments
- Develop strategies for Indigenous students by developing resources, and materials that reflect Indigenous knowledge systems and the unique employment challenges
- Determine appropriate methods to promote opportunities to the correct students and graduates
- Prepare co-op students for the workplace by assisting students to develop tools for success
- Create initiatives to increase students’ awareness of available career services
- Educate Indigenous students on issues that impact career development
- Provide information, facilitate recruitment, and outline legal and ethical recruitment standards
- Advise employers of program content, student availability, and recruitment procedures
- Liaise between students and employers
- Provide ongoing support to employers to strengthen their engagement with the Indigenous student community and develop culturally inclusive recruitment practices
- Establish and maintain relations with faculty, coordinators, and administrators to ensure effective service delivery to students across the college and recent graduates
- Develop, organize, and evaluate career-focused programming
- Plan and execute a variety of employment-related events and workshops
- Collate and prepare information for program reports and review
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum 3-year degree or advanced diploma Indigenous Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, Business, or related field of study
- Minimum 3 years experience in providing employment advising/consulting, or career development to diverse groups including 1:1 employment/career coaching and group facilitation
- A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, values, traditions, and perspectives, and experience working with Indigenous communities
- Demonstrated experience in career counseling, employment services, or related fields, preferably with a focus on Indigenous communities
- Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities faced by Indigenous students in career development and the job market
- Requires experience delivering culturally appropriate services and events to and with Indigenous clients with an Indigenous worldview
- This position requires travel between campuses and to employers. The incumbent must have their own transportation
- The incumbent must be of Indigenous heritage (i.e. Turtle Island-First Nations Status and non-Status, Métis or Inuit) and have strong ties to the Indigenous community
This position is open to internal employees and external applicants. External applicants will not be reviewed until all eligible internal employees have been considered. Internal employees are those classified as full-time permanent within the Full-Time Support Staff bargaining unit, regular part-time (RPT) employees who have completed probation, and Appendix D employees with six consecutive months of Appendix D service with the College at the time of posting.
