**Job Overview**
Trimay Wear Plate is the leading manufacturer and distributor of overlay wear plate & pipe, rubber lined pipe, welding consumables, and VR connectors. Trimay has a manufacturing facility and head office in east Edmonton, and services an international customer base in a wide range of industries, including mining, oilfield, forestry, asphalt and power generation.
We are currently looking for an Estimator to join our team. The position will report to the Project Manager and will be part of an existing production team. The Estimator is responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates, including labour, materials, transportation, and 3rd party subcontracting. The Estimator also assists with our historical cost analysis, establishing unit rates, risk management and other related activities. The Estimator is a critical role in our organization and applicants must have a high degree of professionalism, be able to communicate and work well with our internal team and external partners and have exceptional organization and accuracy. Duties will include but not be limited to:
**Develop Project Estimates**:
- Works within a team to aid in determining the bid strategies required on each opportunity.
- Reviews proposal specifications, drawings, attends pre-bid meetings etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Coordinate with Sales to ensure adequate communication regarding client expectations.
- Evaluates and recommends allowances for indirect costs, project risks, escalation, and contingency.
- Work with Operations partners & Project Manager in reviewing/approving cost estimates.
- Reviews their cost estimate details to ensure accuracy and completeness
**Continuous Improvement**:
- Work with estimating team in building / updating cost estimate models to steam-line the bid process.
- Completes post-bid analyses on jobs once complete and communicates lessons learned.
- Produce and analyze monthly job cost reports of existing jobs to compare actual results with expected results with the aim of improving the estimating process.
**Other Duties & responsibilities**:
- Ensure alignment with the sales process and proposal team.
- Learn and understands safety procedures of workplace.
- Participates in presentations to clients as required.
- Assists in the review of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required.
- Other similar duties as required.
**Qualifications**:
- High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in an appropriate field is an asset.
- Pipe trades background experience is an asset.
- Effective verbal and written communications skills (English).
- Technical training in construction / fabrication or equivalent combination of technical training and estimating experience.
- Should have a general working knowledge of a variety of materials such as steel.
- Customer service and public interaction skills.
- Strong Office Suite skills especially spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Experience in construction / fabrication estimating considered an asset.
- AutoCAD and/or ProNest experience is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints and fabrication drawings.
- Mathematical skills, including geometry and analytical skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to demonstrate organizational, time-management and decision-making skills.
- Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others, have strong interpersonal skills and be self-motivated.
- Ability to manage a fluctuating workload and set priorities to meet deadlines.
Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
