Test Specialist Iii

**Test Specialist III**:
Business Location: Vancouver Shipyards, 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, B.C.

Test Specialist III is responsible for:

- supporting shipboard commissioning and testing activities of various systems on new building vessels at Vancouver Shipyards,
- work together with test and trials team to achieve planned activities in accordance with project schedule,
- directing and coordinating unionized employees and Sub-Contractors during commissioning,
- working closely with other VSY departments, Canadian Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Navy and Classification Society during planning and commissioning phases.
- safe operation of all ship’s systems from initial energization to final acceptance.

**Duties/Accountabilities**:

- Develop and define comprehensive commissioning paths and communicate this to planning department,
- Engage in development and review process of test and commissioning documentation,
- Support Production, Quality and Safety personnel to ensure that systems/equipment is ready for commissioning and testing,
- Carry out Inspections, tests, set to work and commissioning of systems and equipment in accordance with the relevant documentation and associated referenced documentation, carry out fault diagnosis and propose corrective actions,
- Ensure that all the procedures, tools and relevant documents are available to safely and efficiently carry out testing and commissioning activities,
- Identify and record defects/deficiencies during commissioning and test phase, and follow up as required,
- Report progress of commissioning activities to the Director, Test & Trials,
- Stay onboard during the sea trial period,
- Participate in regular department meetings,
- Monitoring and ensuring adherence to WorkSafe BC, Seaspan Site Safety Procedures and all other relevant Health and Safety directives

**Education and Experience**:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Marine, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a combination of education and experience pertaining to the specific skills required for the position may be considered.
- 10 years Marine experience
- 7 years’ experience in new building commissioning and testing projects involving diverse stakeholders.
- A Marine Engineering Certificate of Competency would be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with the safe operation and working features of all ship’s systems.
- Experience with testing and commissioning of ship’s propulsion and support systems, electric and electronic equipment and systems.

Remuneration:
Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000
