Yard Manager

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
The Yard Manager is responsible for the protection of all materials and equipment in the yard which includes material movers, rental fleet, software and auto fleet. This role provides timely receipt of product and oversight of all Yard activities and personnel including serving customers in the warehouse and yard, maintaining receiving, unloading and delivery schedules. The Yard Manager executes an operating budget and supervises compliance with health, safety and fire regulations, etc.

**DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Yard Management:_
- Establish and maintain a professional environment, ensuring the best possible experience for customers and associates.
- Ensure compliance to company policies and procedures through proper handling of merchandise and company equipment.
- Train and supervise all Yard Associates on company policies and procedures.
- Schedule Yard Associates to ensure proper coverage of the Yard.
- Schedule and maintain delivery schedule to customers.
- Guarantee timely communication to customers when materials are received.
- Handle and put away merchandise efficiently and properly to avoid incidents.
- Ensure the warehouse and yard are kept clean and organized.
- Oversee all Yard activities, manage customer requests, complaints and ensure timely resolution.
- Ability to keep costs at or below budget levels as determined by Owner.
- Perform housekeeping duties in the Yard and conduct regular audits for imbalances.
- General:_
- Perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as processing paperwork, maintaining daily shipping and receiving records and ensuring invoices and packing slips are handed to the office daily.
- Operate two-way radio and cellphone to receive instruction and provide updates.
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Work on additional duties, special projects and assignments as assigned by the General Manager or Owners.
- Always maintain professional demeanour and behave in a manner befitting company policy and expectations.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.

**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**:

- Minimum of two (5) years’ experience in a management role.
- Working knowledge of warehouse, yard and delivery operations.
- Related logistics background in a similar industry.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, coaching and mentoring employees, maintain a positive attitude and sense of urgency.
- Knowledge of building materials are a must.
- Inventory Management skills are a must.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high quality of work.
- Strong customer service experience.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Must read, comprehend and interpret written and printed materials, and information provided in numerical and statistical form.
- Computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Office and Point of Sale Systems.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to oversee the safety operation of equipment required for efficient yard operation including lumber carts, forklifts, pallet jacks, order pickers, banding machine, ladders, chop saw, saw mill, trackers, zoom boom, and other fleet items.
- Must move throughout the yard to monitor activities of employees, assist customers, check inventory status and verify the safety and security of the yard.
- Ability to move materials weighing up to 100lbs.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check.

**WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Reports directly to the General Manager.
- Standing/walking for 8+ hours.
- Lifting and/or carrying of merchandise items, as required, on a regular, frequent and unassisted basis. Building material items may vary in weight up to 100lbs.
- Lifting and turning repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Lifting above the shoulder, from floor to shoulder and floor to waist.
- Walking and carrying at the same time & pushing/pulling as required.
- Twisting, turning, reaching and working above shoulder level.

Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
