**JOB SUMMARY**

Reporting to the Implementation Coordinator, NSP, the **Mi’kmaw Environmental Compliance Monitors**are responsible for on-site environmental monitoring of various construction and infrastructure projects. These roles includes overseeing compliance with Environmental Protection Plans (EPP), documenting observations using GIS-enabled tools, and working collaboratively with contractors, project teams, and Mi’kmaw Community Monitors to ensure consistent adherence to environmental guidelines. The Environmental Compliance Monitor will play a key role in the Wasoqonatl Transmission Line Project and the NS-NB Reliability Intertie from Onslow to New Brunswick.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES**
- Support environmental monitoring activities on Wasoqonatl Transmission Line Project, the NS-NB Reliability Intertie.
- Observe and report on environmental conditions such as any potential archaeological findings, water crossings, erosion control, and spill response.
- Assist with documenting field observations using appropriate tools.
- Participate in safety and environmental briefings.
- Maintain respectful and professional relationships with community members and project teams.
- Work independently in outdoor environments year-round, including in remote and rugged terrain, mainly walking.
- Attend project meetings, including those held at the Nova Scotia Power Halifax office.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Genuine interest in environmental work and outdoor fieldwork.
- Ability to work independently and stay organized.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel and work in varying weather conditions.
- Respect for Mi’kmaw communities and a commitment to collaborative work.
- Strong adherence to all health, safety, and risk protocols.
- Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver’s License required; experience working with Mi’kmaw or Indigenous communities is an asset

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- Required to travel across project sites in Nova Scotia and occasionally New Brunswick, with work in remote areas and varying weather conditions.
- Extended periods of walking and standing is required throughout the day.
- Must complete mandatory Occupational Health and Safety training (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid, spill response) and maintain up-to-date certifications.
- Fieldwork demands physical readiness, including navigating undeveloped terrain and working in challenging environments year-round.
- May be expected to work beyond regular hours and manage time-sensitive or sensitive project matters.
- Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license required, along with responsible driving practices for site access and travel.
