**JOB SUMMARY**

Kwilmu’kw Maw-klusuaqn Negotiation Office (KMK) supports the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs (Assembly) in negotiation and consultation processes and engages Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw communities on the best ways to implement our collective Aboriginal and Treaty Rights. KMK is seeking a Data Analyst, Fisheries to assist with this important work.

Reporting to the Manager, Fisheries, the Data Analyst, Fisheries, provides high‑quality analytical support for a rights‑based, moderate livelihood fishery. The role builds and stewards trustworthy data systems, analyzes related datasets, and produces insights that inform leadership decision‑making, consultation, negotiations, and operational planning.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES**
- Provide timely data-driven insights, scenario modeling, and mapping to support Treaty-protected, rights-based fisheries decisions for leadership and governance bodies.
- Prepare clear, accessible materials; synthesize technical reviews and community feedback into actionable decision supports.
- Design and maintain secure, reproducible data pipelines with strong version control and quality assurance protocols.
- Perform statistical evaluations, forecasting, and scenario modeling for fisheries planning, operational readiness, and area performance.
- Analyze territories, habitats, and infrastructure by layering spatial, socio-economic, and ecological data to inform Mi’kmaw-led resource management.
- Collaborate with Communications to translate complex findings into plain-language visuals and briefs; travel to Mi’kmaw communities to support engagement and information sharing.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Degree in data science, statistics, economics, geography (GIS), marine/resource management, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Sound knowledge of data modeling, QA/QC, documentation, and reproducible workflows.
- Experience with fisheries data (catch/effort, observer/logbook, price and market, environmental datasets) and familiarity with Indigenous rights‑based fisheries and Mi’kmaw governance contexts are strong assets.
- Excellent writing and visualization skills; able to brief leadership succinctly and present clearly to diverse audiences.
- Prior experience working with Mi’kmaw and/or Indigenous communities and organizations is preferred.
- Ability to speak Mi’kmaw is an asset.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- Must hold and maintain a valid NS driver’s license. Some travel throughout Nova Scotia will be required.
- Potential for occasional work on weekends or evenings.
- Must demonstrate respect for Mi’kmaq customs, values, and community protocols.
