**Job Description**:
**Position Purpose**
This position is responsible for supporting, developing, and evaluating programs, training and initiatives in prevention, intervention, recovery and return to work including consultation of the Peer Support Program. Responds to crisis and critical incidents and provides clinical support and oversight for consultation, peer support, and the delivery of peer support team.
**Major Responsibilities**
- Collaborates/works with partners and follows the corporate strategic leadership, planning and direction related to this function
- Provides consultative support for the development and delivery of illness/injury prevention programs.
- Provides clinical oversight, support of deliverables, and wellness check in sessions to the Peer Support Team.
- Applies strategic approaches and efficiencies to peer support team and wellbeing initiatives.
- Responds to members in crisis and critical incidents and implements YRP’s critical incident stress management (CISM) related procedures as well as acting as a liaison for referrals to external supports.
- Consults on Trauma Informed mental health programming for Trauma Exposed professionals.
- Under the guidance of York Region’s Employee Health and Safety Division, provide consultation in alignment with corporate sick leave and accommodation programs and policies.
- Provides consultation services in Wellbeing strategy development in alignment with the Corporate Wellness Action Plan, the Paramedic and Senior Services Roadmap and Integrated Health Services Plan (IHSP).
- Provides guidance and support with York Region’s Employee Health and Safety Management System including an understanding of the Ontario Health Standards (OHS) legal responsibilities; recognizing, assessing and controlling workplace hazards; and following incident reporting procedures.
- Contributes to a healthy positive culture and champions approaches to address stigma.
- Develops and delivers Paramedic research focused presentations to internal/external Paramedic Services.
- Consults on return-to-work activities and aligns best practices involving trauma exposed professionals.
- Makes recommendations on changes to operating policies and procedures to improve efficiency and best practices; develops quality assurance activities to monitor program effectiveness and support continuous improvement attitudes; participates in organizational and management change initiatives.
- Ensures that the Branch’s policies, procedures and objectives are understood by staff and implemented; ensures peer support staff complete documentation as per policy and legislative requirements.
- Reports special circumstances and accidents as per procedures; conducts quality reviews and audits.
- Participates in data collection, research, development and evaluation of programing.
- Facilitates competency/sustainability maintenance requirements of Peer Support Team/well-being team.
- Leads the research and analysis on pertinent issues and trends for management to make informed program and policy decisions.
- Keeps up to date with new/emerging technical information, legislation, health & safety standards, and regulations.
- Monitors and evaluates program delivery to meet goals and objectives of the Branch and the Department while ensuring that standards are met and follow governing legislation.
- Provides consultation in the development and implementation of program plans, and policies and procedures ensuring consistency and alignment of all plans with broader corporate plans, standards, and business goals.
- Participates in the operational planning and the development of the communication for the peer support program.
- Provides consultation to the Peer Support staff, including selection, determining training and development needs, and coaching and mentoring,
- Ensures that operating staff work in a safe manner and utilize all required health and safety equipment and protective devices and follow all measures and procedures as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Regional Policies.
- Participates or acts as Department representative on various internal and external committees, task forces and focus groups, as directed.
- Manages information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
**Qualifications**:
- Successful completion of a University Degree in Social Work, Counselling or relevant disciple or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of with demonstrated training and experience in evidence-based short
- term treatment.
- Current registration as a Social Worker or Psychotherapist in good standing with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers of Ontario, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario or relevant governing body.
