This job posting is for an existing vacancy and is intended to fill a current position within our organization.
We are currently looking for a Camp Counsellor to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time summer contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location in Spanish, Ontario.
Under the leadership of the Counselling Manager, the Camp Counsellor is responsible for the overall health, safety and well-being of the campers. With a camper-oriented mindset, Camp Counsellors support campers through their camp experience. First Year Camp Counsellors are expected to take on a learner’s role by gaining valuable knowledge from their peers as well as share their knowledge.
**START DATE**: June 28th, 2025
**LOCATION**: Spanish, ON
**RATE OF PAY**: $588.00 - $750.00 per week
Major Responsibilities
- Supervise and support the campers to ensure their emotional and physical well-being
- Participate in program delivery
- Build relationships with and be a positive role model for all camper and other staff members
- Provide a camper focused experience in all areas of programming
- Assist in other areas of camp as well as programming and provide support during Family Camp
- Other duties as assigned by the Association

**Qualifications**:

- Experience working with campers aged 7-14
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong presentation/facilitation skills
- Knowledgeable in camp practices and its risk management considerations
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Organizational and time management skills
- Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset
- Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
