We are currently looking for Camp Counsellor to join our team of committed professionals. This Full-time Contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location near Spanish, ON.
Reporting to the Program Manager, Camp Counsellors are responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of campers. With a camper-focused approach, they guide and support campers throughout their camp experience. First-Year Camp Counsellors are expected to take on a learning role, gaining valuable knowledge from their peers while also contributing what they can to the team.
**START DATE**: June 27, 2026
**LOCATION**: Spanish, ON
**RATE OF PAY**: $17.00-$18.50 / Hourly
**HOURS**: 42 hours/ week
Major Responsibilities
- Supervise and support campers to ensure their emotional and physical well-being
- Assist in delivering camp programs and activities
- Build positive relationships and serve as a role model for campers and fellow staff
- Provide a camper focused experience in all areas of programming
- Support other areas of camp operations (ie. kitchen, maintenance etc.) and assist during Family Camp as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Association

**Qualifications**:

- Experience working with campers aged 7-14
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong presentation/facilitation skills
- Knowledgeable in camp practices and its risk management considerations
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Organizational and time management skills
- Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset
- Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector

CAMP EQUITABLE EMPLOYMENT FUND
The Camp Equitable Employment Fund (CEEF) is a grant created to reduce barriers to camp employment for individuals who have been historically marginalized and underrepresented in the camping industry.
Successful applicants will receive financial assistance to offset the personal expenses of working in the outdoor industry. This could include: certification courses, personal gear, equipment and travel costs.
