The City is committed to the professional development of our staff and invite you to come, grow with us The Recreation Coordinator - Special Events will lead, along-side other staff & volunteers, the development, implementation and compliance of events and programs by engaging the community in a variety of diverse and inclusive opportunities intended to provide an environment to be active, be creative and meet other members of the community. In alignment with the Special Events Advisory Team (SEAT) policy and standards, the Recreation Coordinator will collaborate with other Parks and Recreation and City Staff, neighbourhood association volunteers, and local community groups/organizations to provide opportunities to effectively and efficiently serve the community through traditional, non-traditional, and innovative approaches to programming and special event planning. Other duties include, but are not limited to: The Vehicle and Equipment Operator Trainer responsibilities and duties include: - Lead and Assist with the coordination of recreational programming, activities and special events - Demonstrated ability to design effective evaluation tools & data collection processes - Knowledge of the Municipal Alcohol Policy and ability to transfer that knowledge through to rental groups - Knowledge of, experience in and commitment to eliminating the barriers to accessing recreation - Team building, problem-solving, and conflict management skills - Well-developed verbal and written communication skills - Develop relationships with potential partner organizations to support service delivery - Provide a comfortable, welcoming and positive environment for participants - Provide exemplary customer service to all participant groups (residents, partners) as required - Participate in community engagement / development activities - Increase awareness within the neighbourhood of programs and services through utilizing community resources and by participating in neighbourhood development activities - Produce reports/correspondence as required - Develop and maintain networks and positive relationships - Complete all other duties as assigned **QUALIFICATIONS** - Completion of a two (2) year college diploma in Recreation & Leisure Studies or equivalent - Completion of a post graduate certification in Special Events management is considered an asset - A minimum of one (1) year previous experience in municipal recreation program/event planning and overseeing staff and/or volunteers is a requirement of the position - A working knowledge of special event safety and logístical processes and legislation, computer programs including Microsoft Office -Word, Excel, Power Point, and recreation software, such as ActiveNet is required - Excellent customer service, communication, time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills along with a passion for working closely with the community & volunteers are essential as well as having the ability to work independently - Flexible working hours including frequent evenings, weekends, and holiday work periods - A valid "G" Ontario driver's license in good standing is required - Successful applicants must obtain a current First Aid and CPR Level C certification prior to commencing employment - Smart Serve Certification **WAGE/SALARY RANGE**: $29.07 to $36.34 per hour (based on a 35-hour work week) plus benefits **Our organization is committed to promoting the independence, dignity, integration, and equality of opportunity of persons with disabilities by ensuring the accessibility of our facilities and services.
