The Kananaskis Region stretches from east of Calgary to the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. Over 50 parks and recreation areas provide outdoor adventures and protected wildlife habitat. At the western edge of the region, farms and ranchlands give way to craggy peaks in the mountain paradise known as Kananaskis Country.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Emergency Communication Technicians fill a dynamic role within a highly specialized remote communications and intelligence hub as the primary point of coordination for incident processing, resource mobilization, communications and documentation during emergency and non-emergency calls throughout the front country and backcountry areas of over 25,000 sq km land base of the Kananaskis Region.

We are looking to fill two summer seasonal positions to work in our Kananaskis Emergency Services office.

Duties include simultaneous monitoring of multiple phone lines and radio channels as well as operation of a variety of communications equipment including a multi-screen computer terminal and various software, printer, mapping software, advanced telephone system, GPS unit, iPad and voice recorder.

Throughout any occurrence, whether it be a wildlife complaint, natural disaster or mass casualty incident, the Emergency Communication Officer is the primary resource for communications between numerous response agencies: Kananaskis Country Mountain Rescue Team, Conservation Officers, Helicopter Rescue units, RCMP, EMS agencies, Provincial Flight Coordination Centers, Search and Rescue groups, Fire Departments and numerous non-emergency agencies.

Emergency Communication Technicians manage multiple responses and incidents simultaneously, triaging priority calls based on available resources and immediate threats to life safety. Reporting to the Emergency Services Dispatch Supervisor, this position is responsible for key emergency communications center files and programs. These include dispatch and radio communications program (training, licensing, and trends analysis), communications technologies and asset management, and stakeholder support.

**Qualifications**:
**Education and Experience**:

- High school diploma and two years of related administrative experience.
- Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

**Other Requirements that are mandatory**:

- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Able to work irregular hours, overtime, shifts, evenings and/or weekends, and/or statutory and provincial holidays.
- Able to work independently without direct supervision, with initiative to remain productive and support other park programs when needed.
