Job Overview:
As a part of the Expanding Hope program team, the Young Parent Support Worker provides supports and services directly to pregnant and parenting youth across Alberta and works with the Children’s Services funded Family Resource Networks to build their capacity to serve expecting and parenting youth. The role works at both the individual client level, as well as the systems level to expand and leverage services to meet the needs of youth throughout Alberta. This Project is a partnership between Catholic Family Service in Calgary and Terra Centre in Edmonton.

Job Conditions:
This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours/week primarily between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and may include working occasional evenings and weekends. The position will be working in the community, working remotely and go in person to the Terra Centre a minimum of twice/week.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide timely service to young families (virtually and in person) using a strength-based, trauma informed and client centred approach
- Complete assessments and surveys with clients to inform service delivery
- Provide supportive counselling, 1:1 coaching, information on child development, and interventions aimed at strengthening the caregiver-child relationship
- Program plan and facilitate parenting and peer support groups
- Support young parents to learn to navigate systems and advocate for themselves
- Support clients to access resources and provide supported referrals
- Provide training/presentations to FRN service providers
- Be a program ambassador with sector partners, donors, volunteers, and stakeholders
- Participate in individual and group supervision, team/agency/division meetings, live observations, and professional development opportunities
- Develop partnerships, engage and support FRNs across Alberta
- Work collaboratively with staff, Family Resource Networks and Spoke services staff
- Consultation with supervisor, colleagues, natural supports and other professionals
- Collect data, input data and complete casework documentation
- Report regularly to program manager to facilitate meeting reporting deadlines

Qualifications:

- Degree/Diploma in a human service field and registration with a relevant professional body if applicable
- Minimum 3 years of case management/service delivery to pregnant or parenting youth
- Experience in partnership work and collaboration is required
- Experience using virtual platforms (i.e., Zoom, MS Teams) for delivering services
- Previous experience working in rural setting an asset
- Clinical experience with families an asset.

Knowledge and Abilities:

- Group planning and facilitation skills (both in person and virtually)
- Knowledge of and experience using Office 365
- Knowledge of parenting interventions
- Understanding of child and adolescent development, ages and stages, attachment issues, child protection and impact of ACE’s on babies

Other requirements:

- A valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with 2 million liability insurance and current clear Drivers Abstract
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check that are dated within 90 Days of the start date
