Manager, Empowerability Program

**Purpose**:
The Manager, EmpowerAbility Program, is a strategic leadership role responsible for advancing equitable career outcomes for students with disabilities at York University. Reporting to the Director of the Career Centre, this role leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of a university-wide initiative that addresses systemic barriers to employment and empowers students through inclusive, accessible, and high-impact career transition services.This position provides leadership to a team of work study students and oversees the development of tailored programming including career advising, job search strategy, employer engagement, and workplace readiness. The role builds strong cross-campus partnerships and serves as a key partner to employers advocating for inclusive hiring practices and recommending accommodations and job design to support successful student transition into the workforce. The role researches and applies best practices for career supports for post-secondary students with disabilities.The Manager, EmpowerAbility Program also leads institutional awareness efforts, including a national symposium, and contributes to sector-wide knowledge sharing through publications, presentations, and professional networks.The role supports the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Division of Students and York University, and contributes to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement. The role aligns work with the university's ongoing commitment to decolonization, equity, diversity and inclusion.
**Education**:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, such as Occupational Therapy, Social Work, etc.
Certified Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) or Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP) licence/professional designation.
Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the University prior to commencement of employment.
**Experience**:
5 years of relevant experience.
Experience supporting individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment transition into the workforce.
3 years of management experience.
Experience developing and scaling student support programs.
Experience negotiating job duties and accommodations with employers.
Experience with establishing benchmarks for performance metrics.
Experience in financial, human resources and project management.
Experience in events planning and management.
Experience collecting and reviewing medical information and recommending accommodations.
Experience researching best practices for post secondary students with disabilities.
**Skills**:
Comprehensive Knowledge of Career Development Practices.
Knowledge of job search strategies.
Knowledge of labour market trends and employment standards.
Understanding of visible and invisible disabilities.
Knowledge of relevant collective agreements, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and Ontario's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Knowledge of best practices in workplace accommodations.
Familiarity with co-op, WIL (Work-Integrated Learning), and experiential education models.
Knowledge of university structures, student services, and academic policies.
Understanding of the needs of diverse student populations, including equity-deserving groups.
Knowledge of recruitment cycles, employer expectations, and job posting platforms.
Familiarity with program evaluation frameworks.
Knowledge of budget management, including establishing, implementing, monitoring and analyzing financial data.
Knowledge of policies and practices related to the collection and review of medical information regarding disability accommodationSkills
Ability to lead diverse teams, including work study students.
Ability to align program goals with institutional strategy.
Ability to interpret and report on student outcomes and employer engagement metrics.
Ability to prepare long-term plans and resource allocation.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Effective partnership building skills across departments, faculties, and external organizations.
Able to deal courteously, effectively, and fairly with people in a manner that exhibits tact and diplomacy.
Ability to address complex student needs and systemic barriers.
Able to effectively facilitate consultations.
Familiarity with student information systems and data reporting tools, such as Student Information System (SIS), Symplicity/Orbis, and OWL.

Note: Verification of degree(s)/credential(s) is required. Normal office work environment. Some travel to various partner employers' locations within the GTA may be required. Flexibility in hours and environment may be required to attend events and visit employers sites.
