Vancouver, Canada Arca Full time

**About us**

At Arca, we pull carbon dioxide from the air and store it permanently as rock. To do this at scale, we partner with the minerals industry to implement our technology at mines. These are the same mines that are producing the minerals (nickel, for example) necessary for the transition to a clean energy future. Arca, formerly Carbin Minerals, is a start-up spun out of the MDRU Carbon Mineralization program at the University of British Columbia and builds on more than 20 years of research by Greg Dipple and his lab.

We believe that by working with nature, not against it, we can achieve carbon dioxide removal on the scale needed to secure thriving and abundant life on Earth for generations to come. If that resonates, we want to hear from you. We’re building a team of sharp, mission-driven, and collaborative individuals who take pride in using their skills to contribute to a sustainable future.

**Position Overview**

In addition to developing and implementing carbon dioxide removal technology at mine sites, Arca helps our mining partners understand carbon sequestration opportunities across their operations. The Scientist - Analytical Services will play a central role in this function, running lab-based analyses and experiments to provide robust carbon mineralization potential assessments and develop a pipeline of partners. This is a critical role to the growth of the company and our carbon removal goals.

**Responsibilities**

As a Scientist - Analytical Services, you will need to:

- Lead carbon mineralization assessment analytical work streams in the lab
- Use analytical equipment to perform sample analyses, conduct experiments, compile results, and prepare reports
- Work closely with the business development team to monitor and manage incoming projects
- Manage and mentor lab technician and intern staff
- Build lab processes and write Standard Operating Procedures
- Set up lab if and when new workspace is acquired
- Abide by, support, and promote all health and safety protocols in the lab
- Have strong communication skills, written, verbal and concise presentation of complex technical topics
- Have excellent organizational skills
- Carry out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification

**We’re looking for individuals who**
- Are optimistic we can make an impact in the fight against climate change
- Say yes before no when confronted with ideas and situations that challenge their ideas of what’s possible
- Thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced working environment

**Requirements of the role**
- Master’s degree in geology/geochemistry/geotechnical engineering/chemistry/materials science or related field
- Experience working independently in a science lab (2 yrs +)
- Familiarity running laboratory analytical instruments (e.g., TGA, DSC, XRD, ICP-OES) and interpreting the data
- The ability to travel for work, including internationally

**Nice-to-haves**
- Working knowledge of CO2 flux measurement techniques (chambers and/or eddy covariance)
- Coding experience - proficient in python, Matlab or C++
- Previous work experience in the mining industry

**What we offer at Arca**
- A competitive salary
- Generous holidays
- Flexible working policy
- Commuter stipend
- Stock options
- A fun and diverse environment focused on making the biggest impact possible on climate change
