**ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER - OPERATIONS***

Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country. There are a total of 51 school sites with 33 Elementary Schools, 8 Middle schools, 5 Secondary Schools, 3 Learning Centres, an Alternate Education School, and an Online Learning School (K-12). Applications are invited for the excluded staff position of Assistant Project Manger to join the District's Operation Team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Assistant Project Manager will provide a coordinated and integrated array of support services that includes acting as the District's representative for the purpose of inspecting work to ensure compliance and workmanship. The role will provide support to the Project Manager in planning and design of projects advising on the budget, scope, District and Ministry of Education and Child Care policies and standards. While assisting the Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager will manage assigned projects to completion, including liaising with staff, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies, reviewing documents, administering contracts, budgeting-reporting, tracking, and monitoring progress of projects and change orders for appropriateness.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Acts as District's representative for the purpose of inspecting/approving work to ensure contract compliance and workmanship quality, monitoring the ongoing appropriateness of contact documents and issuing contemplated change orders, reviewing change orders for appropriateness of content and cost/credit, etc.
- Supports the Project Manager to coordinate planning, design, and construction of assigned projects.
- Under the direction of the Project Manager, liaises with architects, consultants, and District staff regarding the design and construction of assigned projects.
- Supports monitoring, recordkeeping of and assures accuracy of all financial transactions regarding assigned projects.
- Supports coordination with the Ministry of Education and Child Care and regulatory agencies and prepares and submits required documents/reports regarding assigned projects as required.
- Supports procurement of construction and maintenance work (i.e., Tenders, Quotation, RFP etc.)
- Supports administration of contracts and agreements arising out of assigned projects.
- Liaises with maintenance staff and coordinates District work and/or Board managed projects related to assigned projects.
- Assists the Project Manager in the preparation of project plans.
- Attends community, school and District meetings as required.
- May on occasion be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

**Knowledge and Abilities Requirements**:

- Proven organizational abilities to plan, estimate, schedule and follow through on work ensuring that all projects are completed in a timely manner in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulations, and codes.
- Thorough knowledge of up-to-date building technology for architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines.Thorough knowledge of materials and methods used in building construction.Considerable knowledge of contracting practices, consultant, and trade management.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
- Ability to recognize errors, deficiencies and faulty workmanship of designers and contractors.
- Ability to develop, implement and maintain detailed Critical Path schedules.
- Ability to effectively utilize Windows computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, and communications software.
- Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school and maintenance staff, consultants, city inspectors and others.
- Able to interpret and effectively manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines.
- Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Technologist, Technician, or Trades certification in a related field, with a minimum of five (5) years' experience in construction, and a minimum of three (3) years' experience in project management or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of construction documents, drawings, specifications, and current construction practices and methodology.
