**Overview**
The Youth Pre-Employment Counsellor is responsible for supporting and guiding the integration of clients into the local workforce through one-on-one pre-employment counselling and job coaching sessions. The clientele served will primarily be youth newcomers and refugee clients.

**The Youth Pre-Employment Counsellor’s duties fall under these categories**:
**On-on-one consultations**
The Counsellor’s primary role is to provide one-on-one job coaching and workplace readiness counseling to clients by completing an initial needs assessment and by developing a workplace readiness services action plan.
**Facilitate the delivery of the action plan** through onsite resume/cover letter support and workplace readiness skills
**Client Navigation**
- Provide sector specific information by directing clients, based on their skill and language levels, to different employers, organizations, mentoring and training initiatives
- Help clients navigate online job boards
- Initiate referrals to relevant partners as appropriate
- Maintain up to date knowledge and records of employer needs and referral partners
- Attend and participate in local student job fairs and post-secondary fairs
**Reporting**
- Provide data management tracking, recording, and evaluating for reporting purposes
- Keep track of one-on-one meetings, workshops, and employer engagement
- Update and maintain MAGMA client database
- Provide a monthly report to department manager with statistics and highlights
**Workshop Development and Delivery**
- Assess and identify needs and topics for workshops such as:
- Resumes & Cover Letters
- Summer job readiness sessions
- The importance of volunteering
- Create curriculum, slideshows, and desired outcomes for each workshop
**Requirements**:
- Post-secondary education in a related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English. Additional languages are an asset
- Experience with one-on-one employment counselling or job coaching preferred
- Experience in workshop development and facilitation
- Experience working with youth (ages 15 - 25)
- Experience working with vulnerable populations facing multiple barriers and building rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to be patient and remain professional in challenging situations
- Knowledgeable and connected to the local employment market
- Strong partnership development and networking skills

- Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

**Core Staff Duties**
The following core responsibilities are required of all MAGMA staff:
**Event Participation**: As a multicultural association which networks extensively with other organizations as well as hosting a wide variety of events, MAGMA staff are asked to be flexible in arranging to take part as these events usually take place outside of regular working hours. While each staff’s role may involve specific activities, in general the staff are required to attend core events including the Annual General Meeting and the Mosaïq Multicultural Festival. Time spent at these events are taken in lieu, as arranged with the department manager.
**Administration**:As a government-funded organization we are required to report in detail on our activities. Staff are therefore required to submit a variety of regular reports on the fulfilment of their role requirements. The staff also has the responsibility of updating and maintaining the MAGMA client database.
